L1 in japanese as far as i am aware does not exist. The expedition set has an unlimited print but it was not released as a set and the holos have not been seen to have been printed at all. Very little is known about the expedition print in terms of when it was used and which cards have actually been printed. I do however think a non holo e1 pichu has been seen for some reason but i couldnt point you to the right place unfortunately.
The unlimited legend cards were given out during the legendary pokemon campaign in japan as a runner up prize if you didnt win a set of the shiny lugia and ho-oh L-P promos iirc.
As far as I know @woolsluk is indeed right about L1. I’ve seen the LEGENDARY 2-part cards a few times in unlimited edition, so I assume they are some kind of promo. None of the other L1 cards I’ve ever seen in unlimited edition though, and I seriously doubt they exist. But if you can find any prove, I’d love to know it (especially the Pikachu).
As for the unlimited edition E1 cards, we have this thread. The 007/128 Ponyta was a magazine promo; the 082/128 Pichu was some kind of promo as well I think, although no one really knows how it was distributed. All the other non-holos were only given at certain tournaments and events in some Pokémon Centers in 2001, and very rare to find (I still need the Pikachu myself ).
@nine Where did you find those three unlimited edition Pichus? Were the unlimited edition Pichus some kind of promo and easier to find than the other unlimited edition E1 cards, or is it a coincidence you’ve been able to find three Pichus?
PS: Do you have, or know how to locate, any unlimited edition E1 Pikachus? It’s one of the few Pikachus I still need for my collection, so any help would be appreciated.
The psa 10 pop 1 Pichu from E1 was mine… I do have another one at PSA right now, it should be another 10, a 9 if unlucky. I can consider to sell or to trade for error Charizard cards
I managed to find an an unlimited Base Expansion Set Pichu on Mercari earlier in the month for $15, but sadly the seller cancelled the listing. I’m guessing someone tipped them off that it was rare after I’d made the purchase and offered them more. Ah well, I’ll just have to keep my eyes out for another listing.
KEI didn’t really give much of an answer before, but I accidentally stumbled upon where he got them from: this listing on Mercari: item.mercari.com/jp/m18883178346.
There’s a comment on this listing to say the 3 Pichus have been sold separately, 155 days ago (September last year).
I’ve found the separate listing where these were sold, but for KEI’s sake I won’t reveal how much (or little ) he paid.
I find it odd that a seller would have 3 unlimited Pichus in a collection of otherwise miscellaneous, unexciting e-Reader cards. I’m wondering just how rare these are. The listing I found for $15 was bundled with a load of other unlimited and 1st edition Pichus, as if the seller specifically collected them and, for whatever reason, was unaware that the unlimited Expedition one was at all rare. I wonder if the Pichus are more common than we currently think?
The Pichu and Charizard are indeed more common to find than the others. This was also mentioned in one of the original threads about unlimited edition E1 cards. Not exactly sure why. We know the unlimited edition Ponyta is a promo from a magazine, but how the Charizard and Pichu are released I’m not sure.
Although still extremely rare, they are slightly easier to find than the Pikachu (and most other Commons), which I’ve only seen once thus far in the collection of a fellow Pikachu collector and online friend of mine. Hopefully I’ll be able to find a copy of my own one day… (and likewise with the unlimited edition World Championship Pack Seviper and Battle Frontier, to complete my Seviper collection).
I believe unlimited e1 cards came from special deck boxes that were awarded for a coloring contest.
It is noted that the 1st edition version of the Charizard and the Pichu did not come from deck boxes and could only be found in packs. These two are more common (still extremely scrace) in the unlimited version and they are the ones that are not available in deck boxes.
Maybe they were given out to all the winners of the contest or all the participants or they could be from a different event altogether.
Ones that actually could be found in deck boxes (starters, e1 commons, the 5 trainers) are the ones that are really rare.
1 year and 4 months later PSA has now supposedly graded 4 more unlimited SoulSilver Collection #031 Pichus, yet I still haven’t seen one and still don’t actually know if they exist. I want to believe that they do exist, but I get the feeling PSA is simply mislabelling these.
Has anyone actually seen one of these unlimited Pichus?
