I’m really impatient about full sets - I reckon I will totally get ripped off on sets, but most are so hard to come by, its very annoying. I can wait for most promos; by their nature they crop up fairly often unless they are ridiculously rare

But for a 1998… my reaction is that its high, but how often will you see one for sale (we’ve been a bit spoilt with trophy cards being high profile and changing hands the last few years)
That is super high! I would say no more than $2500.00 for it. Yeah we have been a bit spoiled but its nice to see this stuff pop up.
The point is that its super high for now because trophy cards have changed hands a huge number of times in the last few years. In reality, if we didn’t see them for a good few years then I can see the price going up again.
Same with the 2009/2010 illustrator sets - I hope that more come available but I’m not holding my breath. Even Scott doesn’t have the 2010 set yet!
Yes, that is exactly right dogma. I think people have to keep that in mind because the recent frequent appearances of the ultra rare promos is a Luxray Seeing them up makes it seem as if they are attainable and that there are more copies, but in the cases of the cards on ebay they are one copy that just keeps getting re-listed (unimagikarp, 1997 no 1 pika, 2008 no 1 pika, 1999 tmb no 1, victory mew).
That is the most important fact to keep in mind is that once they are purchased by collectors, they will stay off ebay and that false but good feeling of them being available will be diminished.
Thats true. On top of that if someone wanted to buy a certain card off another collector, they would need to offer up a huge amount of money just to get them to part with it. That means someone could potentially spend a lot more than it could be worth. Then again cards are only worth what people are willing to pay.
Those illustrator sets are a steal right now! In 5-10 years they will be impossible to find. Only issue is they won’t be as expensive as the original illustrator because they made 10 sets of thirteen cards for 2010 and 2011 I believe. So in actuality there are over 200 cards.
I hope we dont see a lot more of the illustrator cards untill i get my sale but looking at the last 3-4 months there poping up every 2-3 weeks but what i dont understand is how can one person have so many sets he must have good contacts in japan to make a set available every few weeks
I doubt there were 13 sets because that one person has at least sold more than 10 sets of each by now on YJ

And m786ali I think there are at least 13 sets. That one seller put up at least 8-10 and I have seen brians, smasons, dogma’s, mine. I would like there to be less than more but unfortunately from what I have seen there are at least 10 of the arcues/pichu versions.
