It started with Base Set, then Base 2, and then Legendary Collection. The artwork felt a bit overused at this point but then they gave it a rest for a few years.
We didn’t see the artwork again until Stormfront in 2008. Then, not again until Evolutions in 2016.
But recently, we’ve had the original Charizard artwork in Celebrations (Metal promo and the set card) in 2021, the Trading Card Game Classic Set in 2023, and I assume that they will do it again for the 30th anniversary.
Are they overmilking this artwork? I feel that if the original artwork is reprinted too frequently, it kind of dilutes the excitement.
Eh. Honestly from a playing standpoint it’s fine but from a collectors standpoint it’s a little alarming. Pokemon has been printing to demand for the past few years and even their “limited” promos that people get excited about get announced for who knows how many waves. I think the TCG will be fine since they’ve managed to keep the game engaging and fun. There are a lot of players, I just wish they thought about the collectors side of the isle every once in awhile.
It was very basic haha, I don’t know enough about video games to know why gen 1 games aren’t available on switch. I still have to assume it’s money/resource driven in some way.
And Pokemon Day isn’t far away, you never know. Maybe they’ll announce Gen 1 for switch, and when you download it comes with a special base set charizard reprint promo
Probably many more over time as Base Set Charizard is simply really well recognized in Pokemon and continues to sell well. The good thing is though at least some things change at times. For example, the Celebrations holo is much different than the original Base Set holo even though they have the same artwork. I think this is a good approach to take for collectors who want unique variants of the same card(s). Even with the same artwork, the holo changes it up at least and keeps the older ones more unique as well.
more of same artwork make the card not unique. there is no reprint of fan club eevee or grand party. slowpoke matt only have 1 reprint for the art. to me when the same artwork is used so much over and over it loses something from its uniqueness (but not value)
