I’ve recently read on Pokébeach that the Charizard Full Art from Burning Shadows is not included on booster boxes. As I understand it, the only way to obtain the Full Art variant of Burning Shadows’ Charizard is by buying the Charizard-GX collection box (link to the info: www.pokebeach.com/2017/07/charizard-gx-premium-collection-product-image)).
Don’t you feel a bit “deceived” by Pokémon? I think they’re crossing the line a bit with this… Sets are already expensive enough and there are way too many really expensive cards on each set. Don’t you feel that they are tanking advantage of collectors by getting Charizard Full Art out of the booster boxes and “forcing” people to get this collection box to complete their set? And the box doesn’t seem any cheap…
I’d really like your thoughts on this topic, since right now I’m a bit disappointed with Pokémon
I share your feelings, but in the end the goal of any business is to make profit. In Pokemon’s case, it’s as easy as Charizard this, Mewtwo that. I personally haven’t bought any of these Whateverthefuck Collection boxes in stores since the BW area, save for Black Friday. You can always find deals online.
I understand that they need to make profit… But I think that they should also take care of their audience… I feel they’re being unfair to their own audience
If they keep on this track… I’ll probably stick to Wotc era or to the Japanese side of things, since at least in Japan they don’t do this collection-boxes-new-thing-of-taking-a-card-and-make-you-buy-two-products
I feel the same way I feel like all the ‘EX/GX/Premium’ collection boxes that they pump out.
They are completely uninspired and boring to people like you are me, but they are an incredible money maker for Pokemon. If a kid wants Pokemon cards for a birthday or Christmas present and a relative or parent doesn’t know what to get. Bam, easy sale and easy present for that person.
The boxes are big and shiny and come with ‘cool’ looking cards on the front of the box. Kids love that.
Yep… I’m also quite tired of the “EX/GX/Premium” collection boxes lately. At first I bought some of them but then I realized they don’t offer anything actually interesting for a collection, at least almost never But… as you say, easy sale…
The only way I can understand those boxes is the Generations release, since that was something really special celebrating the 20th anniversary. Other than that… It’s all about -more- money.
And now… Taking cards out of sets to make you buy the boxes… My guessing is that they’re realizing that the Full Art variant is quite unnecessary since it has the same artwork as the rainbow rare. So how can you make people buy them for sure and in the process make a ton of money? Oh, yeah, collection box for 80 dollards or more and everyone has to buy it to complete the set apart from the regular booster box(es) (cause even if the card is not included in the set “officially”, I think everyone includes it since we know that there are three variants of the cards from previous sets).
Sorry for all the rumble, I’m just very angry at this
I am more annoyed by the fact that they printed boxes with just exactly the same EX that we’ve already had in a set. Not even a different copyright or holo pattern, just 100% the same card.
Examples:
Kangaskhan EX Box
Kingdra EX Box
Scizor EX Box
I know this is to profit from the Pokémon GO hype, but still. Is it that hard to give them something unique?
Those are the ones that annoy me the most. I have no problem with the boxes with new Promos even if it’s just a new artwork but the attacks etc are the same than on the set version, but some of the boxes they released earlier this year and last year with the exact same ex cards as in the sets doesn’t make any sense to me…
I don’t like it but at the same time I don’t mind it either, confusing I know.
My main problem is how many collection boxes/pin sets/figure sets we see of the same Pokemon over and over and over. We’ve gotten about 3 or 4 Tapu Koko products in the last three months, now we’re setting up for 2-3 Zoroark products with Shining Legends and an onslaught of Marshadow.
I’m trying to stay far away from new sets in the TCG but my Pokemon addiction is strong.
I understand that’s a lot of full arts in 1 box, but a $100 price tag and it only includes 2 packs? fuuuuuuck that.
I’m personally ok with this Charizard box because I have almost 0 interest in the sun and moon cards. The only sun and moon product I’ve bought so far was 3 burning shadow Japanese boxes, which I regret so the only way I’d get a full art Charizard is with a box like this. Better yet, I’ll probably just be able to buy it as a single for only $5-$10 thanks to this box.
That’s why it pays to be on top of what is coming out when you are in the collecting field. I would buy the card on its own if I really wanted it vs buying the box (of course this all depends if it’s cheaper to buy the card vs the box). I do however find this annoying but I guess if they are making more money than so be it. I’d rather see them be successful than not as it benefits me to see them doing well.
The problem with them being successful in this way is that it is dangerous to their own success. If they make more money cause they’re releasing really “cool” products, then absolutely fine by me. I want them to be successful because I want the hobby to survive throughout the years. But being successful by taking advantage of people’s love for the hobby… that’s dangerous, cause maybe the people who love the hobby can become disappointed and stop buying, as in my case, since I’m not buying that box. There’s a saying in Spanish (I’m not sure if it exists in English) that goes: don’t bite the hand that feeds you. And I think that they’re totally bitting it right now
Well, they usually release just those normal ex/gx boxes, so im fine with them releasing an actual full art card in these boxes from time to time, even if its zard.
