I’m sure it’s been discussed before, but recently I’ve had 4 different people not pay for items I sold on eBay. I had to cancel after a few days and relist.
Do I still incur fees even though there was no money that ran through my account and it was the “buyers” fault?
If you let the eBay automatic system handle the unpaid items you don’t have to pay fees. But that system doesn’t kick in till 7 days after purchase and offers buyer 3 (or is it 5?) days to pay. So your item is in limbo for 10-14 days.
Best way to prevent this is to, if not an auction, enforce immediate payment (can’t recall atm what it’s really called) so they’re forced to pay right on the moment of clicking ‘Purchase’.
Competors taking away your item from the listing. Instagram/Facebook flippers wanting to use your sold listing as proof their card is worth X. Very various reasons.
Don’t do best offers, if your price is good people will buy. Take 10-15 min very day to check if your price still reflects the market, that will cure a lot of your headaches.
I canceled the item after a few days lapsed and no response from the buyer. Sounds like I should have waited the full 10 days so I won’t be charged the final value fee…
I just called and they said I won’t be charged. I just know they have changed some things this year so I wasn’t entirely sure. Thank you for your help.
never cancel, always open an unpaid item case on them so they get a strike against their account. you’ll be helping everyone else out that way as it’s best practice to not allow anyone with 1 or more strikes to purchase or bid on your items.
