Do I get defect if buyer requests to cancel unpaid item?

A buyer made an offer on a card, and lo and behold, a day later, he decides he doesn’t want the card anymore. He asked me to cancel the order, but I know that if I do that as a seller, I won’t recover my fees and I will get a defect.

My understanding is that if the buyer submits a cancellation request themselves rather than the seller just outright cancelling, I’ll be able to get my fees back. But do I get hit with a defect?

You dont lose ebay fees if you cancel per the buyers request.

You also don’t receive a defect, correct?

as a follow up to this I’ve had 2 people recently buy high end items and never pay for them. They’ve sat unpaid for weeks. When can I cancel this or what should I do lol, just stranded items?

Don’t cancel. Open unpaid item case. Then you can close the case after 4 days, get your fees back and not get a strike/defect.

You can always file an unpaid item claim & that leaves a strike on their account,

I cancel after no reply in 5 days & a couple reminder messages if no communication. What are they gonna say? I’ve never had an issue.

Let the buyer request a cancellation, don’t cancel yourself. If buyer wont comply, open a non-paid case against them and wait for automatic cancellation. This is why I avoid best offers.

They also can’t leave you negative feedback if go the route of unpaid item. It takes a bit longer than cancelling, but the pros far out way the cons imo.
