Buyer cancellation request

Hi all, recently I sold a Japanese smeargle psa 10 on ebay. The buyer sent an offer to which I accepted and after 2 days I received no payment. I immediately opened an unpaid item dispute without contacting the buyer at all. Within a few hours of the dispute being opened the buyer contacts me saying something along the lines of “I didn’t give them enough time”. I simply responded back and told them to take as much time as needed as the dispute will be closed upon payment. The buyer then asks me to cancel the order.

Anyway, this is my first cancellation and I’m not sure if I will receive a strike on my account if I send the buyer a cancellation request. Should the buyer send me the request to accept or do I send the request myself and if I do will I receive punishment from Ebay? Plan B is to let the unpaid item dispute reach it’s 4 day period and close it without payment as I don’t want to lose any Ebay seller fees.

Thanks everybody

Personally, I would have sent the buyer a message before opening an unpaid item dispute to ask if they intend on paying for it. I wouldn’t want to turn off an actual buyer who was having some kind of payment issue.

If you wait for the 4 day period to end you wouldn’t be charged the fees. I have never had a problem getting my fees back for an item that wasn’t paid for.

Thanks for the response. Only reason I never sent a message previous was due to comments I found on other threads basically saying not to send any personal messages due to the buyer being able to use it as a reason to cancel their purchase. I’m not sure if this is correct though.

So can I send the buyer a cancellation request without any repercussions? Or should i ask the buyer to send me one (if they can)?

You already opened and Unpaid Item case - there is nothing further you can do either the buyer pays within 4 days or after that point you simply close the case indicating the buyer did not pay and there is no fee or strike against you. The buyer does receive an unpaid item strike.

Cancelling for the reason that the buyer requested it also removes all fees as well.

Personally, I don’t worry about the whole wether I should or not stuff when selling on eBay. To paraphrase a potential wall of text from me, I always try to treat people who buys cards from me like bros until they give me a reason not to.
