FIFA World Cup 2026

Only few days to go before another football world cup begins, this time in 3 different countries with whopping 48 teams instead of 32 which was standard for ages.

As usual feel free to discuss about results during the event. Gonna be longest 5,5 weeks ever to those want to follow all action going on.

It would be also nice to hear which team are you planning to support, do you plan to see any games live on site and so on.

It’s surreal this will be the last World Cup for Messi, Ronaldo, and Modric. I remember watching them in the 2006 World Cup, crazy they have been able to play at the top level for 2 decades! :soccer_ball:

Don’t care about the soccer, the most exciting part is that there is now a 51 beaver scavenger hunt in my neighbourhood!

What do you get if you find them all?

My favourite beavers I found so far in old Toronto:

I think I’ve found 26 out of 51 so far. I’ll let you know if I find any more that I love :soccer_ball::beaver:

Can’t wait!

@pfm can we get a dedicated channel on discord as to not disrupt the fine conversations on general?

usa all the way…but im hoping Ronaldo can snag a win. Itd be cool if the two best players of all time each had a wc win. Itd also be really funny if Messi won it again!

I hear Norway is good? I watch SOCCER every 4 years so…

This is Jordan’s first ever appearance for the FIFA World Cup shockingly. I’ll definitely be watching.

LOL

I’m so excited for USA vs. Turkey, hoping to make it to California to see in person- either way it’s a rare moment I get to watch my specific blend of cultures competing. I don’t know which to root for! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Don’t give a hoot about football but apparently we qualified for the first time in 28 years so there will be no end to the coverage, even if we go out in the first round which there’s a good chance that we will. To be fair, world cup is as interesting as it gets. The stakes, the drama, the dirty tricks. 2006 had some fun moments.

This! Even if you don’t like the sport the tournament always has something anyone can enjoy. First appearances for countries, teams like Morocco going deep, Saudi Arabia beating the eventual winners Argentina, or Suarez hand ball winning the game, and Zizou’s infamous headbutt.

Norway is pretty strong this time, you obliterated Italy two times :trophy:

And Bodø/Glimt smashed City. The betting odds on that one must’ve been astronomical.

On a vaguely related note, that Vinnie Jones piece on Netflix was really well put together, I enjoyed it.
