“how will this effect the market” is typing
I love when places do this, when I was a kid my city did ‘Town Turtles’- our neighbor was chosen to paint one and we got to pull it in the parade. There were lots of news stories with stolen turtles and vandals though, and they’d post updates like crime scene images
Poor Desireé
Ngl the Colombia beaver with jaguar(?) face looks pretty badass, can’t wait to see whole catalog of these masterpieces. ![]()
Your group looks totally doable and surely the recent bronze medal from ice hockey world championships gives extra boost/motivation for football team to go deep in knockout stage.
Oh my goodness those turtles ![]()
it is fun when a community gets together to do something fun like this!
There’s often going to be at least one vandalized statue, sadly… One of the beavers was already beat up and is being repaired now (“in the hospital” lol). When I go to the post office later today I’ll try to take a pic of the sign they posted in place of the beaver haha.
ETA: here is the sign at the post office!
Yeah, the Colombia one is amazing. I love the details with all the flora and fauna! I noticed as I walked by it again the other day that the jaguar face is actually a bandana!
There’s also a capybara on the back beside the bird of paradise flower and monstera leaf
this artist really went all out!
As every year I’ll not be supporting my national team. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Netherlands and I am proud of being a Dutchman, but I seriously hate the colour orange. And when it comes to football, some old farts reaching the age of my own father are way to nostalgic about Johan Cruijff and whatever happened in 1988. This year I think our coach Ronald Koeman has made some poor decisions in selecting players for the team, and applying a double standard for his selection. Maybe influenced by the Dutch football union KNVB. Memphis Depay and Wout Weghorst should not have been selected.
The default country I usually root for is not qualified for the World Cup 2026. No Italia to cheer for.
Broadcasting time is also far from ideal, all matches starting at 21:00, 01:00 or 03:00. So it will be a recap watching World Cup.
Possible winner are clearly France and Spain due to its team being the most well rounded, in top fit condition. But you never know how the tournament will develop. I don’t see Argentina or Brazil winning the World Cup. Both teams have to deal with an old veteran that demands scoring and the whole team selection is more top names of the European competitions than a well al round team. And while I am a big fan of Christiano Ronaldo, I don’t think he and Portugal can get past the final 8. England is a real dark horse and they might finally bring football home in 2026 when everything falls into place for them.
We do have a few really interesting teams participating, Morocco got their Africa Cup win stolen and are out on revenge. Paraguay and Uruguay are always strong. And both Senegal and Ghana can be very surprising with both teams bringing a lot of European football competition experience.
its coming home ![]()
But in all seriousness I think it’ll be Spain’s world cup
Can’t wait for it to start. Despite games kicking off really late i will likely watch the majority of them. Cant see England winning it but once we get through a knockout game or two ill have said its coming home about 500 times before getting massively let down but you never know.
Hoping Scotland can have a good tournament and get out of the group stage for the first time. Think the Spanish will take some stopping
It will be either Portugal or Spain based on how well they cope with the heat. England, Germany, Netherlands and above may struggle. Saying that I think it all depends on where teams finish in the group as the simulation for who wins varies quite a lot on who they face in the KOs.
Speaking of Norway, I hope we get Astrid for the anthem: TikTok - Make Your Day
I have a passing interest in soccer but I am very interested in the Toronto beavers.
I have created a channel in the Discord for those who want to watch the Soccer and chat about it there.
I am looking forward to not getting up at 3am on a work night to watch a match (though that was a bit of a novelty).
LFG Australia!! We don’t have a spectacular team but we will be organised and up for it in terms of commitment
our three centre-backs and GK are very strong, they will need to do a lot of work if we’re going to be successful.
Football is my main sport. It will be nice having it at the regular time of year so I can watch WC cup games while I’m still in my own playing season here in Aus. It was weird having it late in the year last time. The spread of kick-off times for us is actually not bad either.
My tip: It’s genuinely a toss-up between any of the top 10 ranked teams imo. I don’t think Argentina are actually the best football team despite their #1 ranking.
My hope: a team that has never won it before manages to go all the way (or at the least someone who hasn’t won it for a while)
Looking out for: how does the new format play out? I’m personally not a fan; if it isn’t broken… While it’s nice for the smaller countries to get a chance to play on the biggest stage, there is the potential for some embarrassing blow-outs. I also wonder if the increased length of the tournament makes it feel a bit less special, or we get spectator fatigue throughout. We’ll see. ![]()
Superb. Goosebumps.
Can’t believe Scotland are going to win the whole thing.
The country will be closed for business for weeks after.
Taking my mom to a game to see her home country hopefully beat a much better team lol right behind the net as well. Should be amazing ![]()
28 years for Scotland too… must be a north-northern hemisphere thing. Or something to do with Norse bloodlines.
Hilariously, someone has already been sparked-out in a pub near me for playing “it’s coming home” on their phone
. At least the Scots happily accept they won’t win. The English however have this weird recurring delusion that pisses off the other home Nations….
