Evolving Skies Market Watch

Because the insane 1999-2000 demand fading away in the early 2000’s sealed product basically didnt do anything for the upcoming 10-12 years.

No i can change the years 1999-2000 with 2020-2022 to see whats going to happen as demand like in the early 2000’s is again slowly fading away.

But we live in complete different times and influencers can hype up crowds now, that wasnt a thing back in 99.

Great insight sir! :+1:

2012 my budget for Pokemon was $0.

2023 my budget for Pokemon is $1,000+ a month.

I was still in highschool in 2012. I had no job and no money. I think there are a lot of collectors now that were in the same position back then.

Your comparison is to one of the lowest interest periods in Pokemon history. For boxes that to be replicated today you’d need to expect the entire market across the board to basically collapse.

It also ignores that fact that base set boxes were not $300 in 2016-2019. I bought one in 2019 pre-covid for $4kish

To be fair here, most adults didn’t collect in the 1990s and 2000s. Now a large portion of the Pokemon collector base is made of adults. I don’t think modern can ever be compared to WoTC era because the consumer base is completely different now in addition to the effects of POGO, COVID, social media, etc.

But kids today are supposedly going to buy the sets for top dollar will also still be in high school in 10 years

That’s literally one youtuber, we all know who he is, it’s the crown jewel of exceptions.

I disagree but that’s one nice phrase. Did you come up with it yourself?

I dont know where you got that information from but i want to say i really enjoy all your views and arguments against my views.
Always good to learn.

I was here at the time

I really do like ES, I just wish it wasn’t always about the stonk. They’ll put one random reprint es pack in a garbage box and people will scramble to buy out the virizion v boxes.

The set has become an icon for what’s annoying with modern

Was more interested to the information that a base set box was 300 in 2019?

Why are you forming your opinions based on r/pokeinvesting though?

They are a mocked niche and the products they are holding are likely going to be opened when no one shows interest in buying them from 0 feedback accounts.

If they were remotely intelligent in investing, they wouldn’t be on that sub. Last I heard, the sub’s mods were banning people from asking why their Discord is paywalled. It’s just a grift for the mods and a bunch of clueless sheep following around.

Moral of the story: Popularity (of a set) comes with a price.

Everything has strengths and weaknesses, pros and cons. Deal with it.

And it’s a free market, crazy rich people can do whatever they want with their money, eg; book an entire restaurant for their anniversary, causing people like me to unable to dine in my favorite restaurant once. I can’t do anything too, just an average salaried guy.

I wrote that base set boxes were not $300 in the latter 2010s, as a response to your point about 2012.

The overall point being that price of a base set box primarily follows the popularity of the tcg as a whole. The price being lower in 2012 and higher in 2018 is not because suddenly there was a sudden decrease of supply in that time period, it’s because there were virtually no buyers in 2012 and a person who was 6 in 1999 was only 19 in 2012.

The story of base set booster boxes is a story about demand, not supply. Generally speaking the boxes were the same relative level of scarcity until this current era of box breaks. So I don’t think base set boxes are a good comparison to understand modern levels of supply.

Calling Rudy a ‘youtuber’ in that way, to almost suggest many other youtubers would have similar stashes, is a little disingenuous. The guy operates at a volume I doubt any of us on here can even imagine

Yup, yup, yup, a mountain is a mountain, a hill is a hill. A mountain cannot be called a hill, likewise a hill cannot be called a mountain. Must address properly with proper terms. So what should we address him?

well he is more like a store that also has a youtube channel. He does not pay retail price, he also does not need to/want to sell all of his inventory. So he is a bit different than your avg youtube investor.

hes a big believer though thats for sure and at his buy in price I am sure its a no brainier. But its different to sit on pallets of modern that you paid full price for than to do so with pallets that you paid 60% of the lowest price that the unit has ever been at. (idk if he actually pays 60%, but from the prices a nobody like me can get with very small time connections I would not be surprised if his cost basis is stupidly low)

I guess so, it sounded like something I’ve heard before but a google search suggests its original
