Evolving Skies Market Watch

I don’t understand this ES thing. It was printed, sat in stock for a few months under MSRP, then we got a reprint. Its been in every collection box/tin in the past year +, sleeves have been spotted pretty much constantly in the past 6 months in large quantities. Its almost 2 years old and had plenty of print, there is absolutely zero need for a reprint since its still being released daily all over. There are no meta cards like RS either.

Yet everyone still thinks it HAS to be reprinted again because people like the set and its expensive now, thats not logic, thats hope.

Are those not good reasons to reprint a set?

I just commented ā€œreprint soon?ā€ simply because I have been trying to build the set from packs I open vice buying singles, which I accept is financially a dumb decision but more enjoyable to me than buying singles. Having a reprint would allow this to happen at a slightly less painful price point, at least for a little while. But I don’t think Danny is saying the set has to be reprinted (in fact towards the end of the video he pretty clearly says he has no idea if it will be and could see it going either way).

I will say also that yes, the sleeved boosters are out there in some stores but they aren’t as easy to come by as you might think; when people see them hanging up in a grocery store aisle, they don’t grab 2 or 3 for a few minutes of fun, they grab all 50 of them.

As Danny asked in the video, is it worth $255 of fun to open?

Perhaps Pokemon doesn’t want to print anymore because maybe they did print a lot and there are just a lot of people who are keeping sealed boxes.

I’m not a gambler so opening packs is not fun. I’ve got all the alts as singles already. Perhaps there still isn’t enough of those to satisfy demand, but I’m surprised at how much the other cards are ā€˜holding up’ if you can even call it that.

Things like Trevenant V are probably actually worth $0.10 or something and everything more common than that should be $0.01.

For most people not really, and that’s the point: a reprint alleviates this issue, at least temporarily.

No, not really. Popularity of a set or price is not a reason to reprint unless its meta. There is no shortage of ES in any sense of the word, just hype and the $300+ market value make it more desirable.

And to be clear on my position, I own the cards from ES I want and have a couple of booster boxes and ETBs bought under MSRP, so barely anything. I am not worried about the tiny value I hold.

Im not sure why everyone thinks a reprint has not happened? They have clearly reprinted etbs and sleeved to a fairly decent degree. Most walmarts and other stores had them restocked. They are all immediately purchaed though. Usually by walmart employees at restock from the ones ive talked to. I think the idea that they will reprint so much that everyone can get as much as they want is foolish.

They dont really reprint boxes much

Interesting observation. Would you say they generally don’t reprint boxes as much or just in this particular situation?

Im just going off what people tell me. There are people who follow this stuff closer than i do. Maybe @mcorey777 could share more about the box vs etb/sleeved reprint policy. Its just an observation but seems to be accurate. They seem to love making etbs and sleeved packs

Thanks for the Info.
Would love to hear what @mcorey777 has to say about this.

I would agree with the statement about only etbs/sleeved being reprinted. But I would only agree i we use the past 6–7 months as reference. Beforehand, I didn’t have this feeling.

I think its a more recent push towards etbs than boxes

This is the exact pattern of the last few sets.

Semi big wave 1

They don’t or only give a small amount on wave two

Boxes start at $85-105 range at release probably cheaper if you pre-order without having a distributor.

If you have a distributor they arnt getting amazing prices $80-$85 range and they also get stuck with tons of hard to sell and little profit items. Theme Decks, Collection boxes, other tcgs etc. For example they don’t want people stocking their store with just pokemon they would want you to do magic and all kinds of other stuff too. So I determined it’s not worth it.

When sellers sell at release they are making zero profit or $5-$10 after shipping and fees.

At release the product gets ate up pretty quick.

Next thing you know it they grow to close to pokemon centers $144 mark or do weird things like Brilliant which is $180 on tcgplayer and $144 on pokemon center.

They kind of stall out and flatline once they hit that $140-$150 range until pokemon center eventually sells out.

Once they finally sell out it starts to get wild. It also goes off availability. As the listings decrease the higher they go.

Meanwhile everyone prays for reprints that don’t come. What they do give is etbs for days and collection boxes etc.

For evolving skies I didn’t manage to get my hands on any because I got involved too late besides some etbs. But I’m working on some other plays vs focusing on evolving skies.

Last week they also randomly dropped evolving skies on pokemon center early in the morning for maybe a half hour for a few days in a row. I also heard about it too late. Regardless of checking all the time I still don’t see it.

Did they reprint booster boxes? No. Why? Scarlet and Violet is $166 now on pokemon center

You can preorder scarlet and violet now for $105-$110 range if you look hard enough. It sounds like more than before but the new stall out number is $160-$170 range. They should go pretty crazy on release.

I don’t know why they are making booster boxes and certain items more limited. I’m thinking it’s because it keeps us eager to buy it up and pokemon doesn’t tank the value. Maybe they learned from the past.

For evolving skies I’m not 100 percent if they are printing blisters and etbs just to get it in collectors and players hands. I’m thinking it more has to do with clearing back stock.

Pokemon also has a history of giving one amazing pack in a crap collection box. For example Cosmic Eclipse packs not long ago. If they put team up the collection boxes would have sold fast even with all steam siege or something as the other 3 packs.

Currently they do that with evolving skies. 1 pack with sword and shield base vivid and maybe a fusion pack. Stupid stuff like that just to make it sell.

That’s everything I know for the most part

I think people are beginning to cash in. I’ve been seeing a lot of sealed cases come to auction…

Happens with every set. These buyers will either have a new cost basis and won’t sell unless they have to, or rip and further restrict the supply.

Both will only lead to prices going up

Now evolving skies is stonking so hard people on Facebook are trying to sell the cardboard sleeved pack holders from stores
