Just wanted to see if anyone else wanted to chime in on this?
Not many graded Evolutions cards on Ebay UK just now, I imagine things will have changed by this time next year because apparently it’s one of the sets that’s getting graded the most. Which means next year is probably a better time to buy them.
I wouldn’t mind picking up a few in slabs like the Chansey/Nidoking/Gyarados/Ninetails/Mew but the prices would have to make sense. A quick look at the current prices and my instincts say it’s poor value because just 3-4 months ago I was struggling to sell similar Base 2 Holos (like Alakazam and Raichu) in similar grades for half the price that the Evolutions slabs are just now.
Would you rather have the English or Japanese ones?
I think most people prefer English in general for all sets
Base Unlimited PSA 10 holos are relatively affordable for their age. Unless that stops I don’t see too much long term potential of Evolutions 10. The issue is some of them are so difficult to grade they would actually outprice Base Unlimited 10s, and your primary buyer pool would be PSA 10 set collectors rather than people who are nostalgic and can’t afford Base Unlimited.
I am definitely looking to pick up some PSA 10 Charizards from Evolutions for the collection. I understand the sentiment of not buying reprints, I just want both lol. Given the massive frenzy of Evolutions that’s happened over the past few months, I am certainly waiting to purchase. I imagine late next summer/ fall, all of these PSA returns will absolutely nuke the prices of Evolutions slabs (potentially slab prices in general, all these box break cards getting graded, plus the bulk! I hopefully foresee some price retraces lol). Hoping to grab the full art M Charizard EX (probably more than one) for a good price (it’s honestly already pretty low, but if it could go lower, why not?). Most people who aren’t on their third month in the hobby understand the situation with Evolutions and the sheer volume it was printed in, so ideally that slab crash could bring the price of sealed XY12 back down a little as well. This is pure speculation, but just some stuff I have been thinking about.
