This was a very fun set to open. I opened 20 ETB and got 1 lab mewtwo, 1 hr mewtwo, 1 hr raichu, 20 shinings total (Not one shining genesect ;_ AND 19 shining ho-oh promos! Looked all over in 1 of the boxes and it just didn’t come with one. Would’ve been pissed if that was my only box hahaha. But yah most of the promos were OC with some whitening, not 1 looking like a 10. But I was very impressed with the quality of the rest of the set, especially the shinings. Most likely going to be getting another case.
I’ve got 3x of the Ho-Oh Premium Collection boxes being delivered on Wednesday, 10/11…will certainly be posting pictures of the contents + cards!
Just hoping that the promo cards are in good shape like the Mew + Mewtwo Super Premium Collection cards were…I felt like the 4x boxes of those that I opened had really pristine promo cards, so i’m hoping for more of the same with this box!
Out of the set… THe thing im pissed off about is the shining volcanishlong… I dont like that pokemon, but i havent seen the movie of it yet or anything so I guess will wait and see.
However it just looks shite.
Problem is with new sets is that were in the PSA era of everyone grading. So unless there is significant production problamoz/quality of cardlingz like with english XY sets. Then obviously investing is going to be nothing like older sets. As noone was grading psa 10 of the first cards whilst they were released like the 300 million that are graded per second at each release. This set in japanese is just destroyed, i really wish they did make it like the BW era were the shiny ultras were 1 in 5-10 boxes… There was plenty of FUll arts in the BW era, but the ultra rares they really did a great service to as I dont really see that many Ultras in mint condition on yahoo japan… Not to mention that when they do show up, there usually played to the shithouse as the BW era wasnt being graded when it was released and alot of cards were played… The thing i hate about BW era was the HOLOgraphic Rares… MAN it was a strange layout, im not sure if its going to be a big chace and playout like the ex era did in english holos, only time will tell. English has a much better chance at long term strengthingtons with this set, as the centering is off on a fair few of these shinnies, and that dam LAB mewtwo man, it has one nice low pull rate. Lets hope they dont print it into oblivion.
The thing is though…> This set is the best sun and moon investment wise so far IMO. ANd i Believe the sets pullings and such will cause some long term nostalgia cravingz for the kids who open this up, and long term those sealed boxes are gonna be noice… It is the golden set of sun and moon… and I believe they need to bring these shinnies back like bw… and have SHINY ULTRA RARE POKEMON!!! thats right ultra rare shiny pokemon… not f***ing blow dryers as golden boarder ultra rares WE want… 1 or 2 pokemon instead per set, in this format.
Imagine for the BURNING shadows set, if they had an ultra rare charizard shiny that was 1 in 10 boxes… WOuld have been astounding!
How much lower do you all think the Shining cards will go? Trying to figure out if I should jump on them now or if I should wait another few weeks/month.
Seeing the fact that I can get all of the Shining Cards I need and the secret rare Mewtwo for under $100 and then realizing I’ve spent $250 on the set so far and only have a single Shining to show for it has finally set in… lol.
Personally, I would grade those that look like they would receive a 9 or 10. This set is brand new. There is no sense in grading lower end cards not unless you are really fond of that card and feel like you cant get another (which is silly to think because there will be an overabundance very soon on ebay and other sites). Go through your cards find the ones that look to be 9’s or 9’s that could be a 10 and solid 10’s the rest I would just sell them. All your common cards unless you play the tcg i would sell as well. The reverse holos you can keep those could have value later since you only get 1 per pack try get a complete set of those in good condition over time. The only ones I would currently grade though if you plan to grade are the shining’s and hyper rares and secret rares and full arts and gx’s. The rest like the normal holo’s and reverse holos I would keep the best condition but not grade until later on if the set shows future value. Just keep them neatly in a box and in sleeves.
Now as far as that Secret rare mewtwo the front is flawless i feel like the back no so much. I cant tell if those are bumps or white marks made from the printing press. One of my secret rares has white spots on the blue boarder on the back as well and I don’t think that would do well with PSA. Maybe consider selling now and buying another in a month or so when the prices will drop. Then grade that one. If there is any card that should do well as far as value goes from this set it will be the secret rare mewtwo. Its an amazing looking card and very hard to pull on top of that there is no guarantee you will get a good condition one. I got lucky I got 2 and even those 2 are not in perfect condition. Some go through 10+ boxes and don’t pull it.
I havent purchased anything so far. But that is my exact thought process right now. Would be cool to open some packs, but far less expensive to just buy the cards I want.
@pokerd I have some full art cards from Primal Clash with similar damage. I always thought it’s ink defect but I’m not sure… It’s really annoying though
It’s not ink defect…it seems like it’s the cards being stacked on top of each other and the texture from the card on the bottom ‘bleeds’ onto the top card…this is on the Lab Mewtwo GX in particular. Have 5 and all of them had this.
The ‘damage’ on the back of one of these seems to correspond directly to where the texture is on the card’s front; that texturing gets imprinted on the card above it, meaning the card sheets are cut and these Lab Mewtwos always get stacked on top of each other correspondingly (which makes sense/seems normal).
