English Shining Legends Set Discussion

Do you have any in person? Because I felt they really looked lackluster in pictures as well.

Not in person, just from photos.

Idk I’m just not a fan of these, the regular set cards look gorgeous. I’ll probably buy them since they’re practically bulk.

The Volcanion is probably the worst looking one imo. I’m fine with the other artworks but they just don’t feellike the Neo shinings. This really makes me want to pick up the rest of the 1st Neo Shinings to match my Zard though lol.

but to each their own.

In this instance, I prefer the japanese variants more than the english. Typically I do english for new FA cards, but the yellow borders on these cards don’t look as nice as the Japaense white imo.

Holy cow check out the top of those two Shining cards, miscut much?

I thought they exact same thing when I saw them. Reminiscent of fakes with that ugly yellow border, takes away from the entire aesthetics of the card.

Yeah I watched his opening. I was twitching so much that he wouldn’t acknowledge how bad they were as he was pulling them. I hope all the early boxes arent this bad…

What about with the original Shining cards? They had the yellow border in English releases and I thought they looked fine.

I personally think the WOTC border was better than the current yellow border. The nintendo border is brighter imo. But this is just my preference. It might be tangled with nostalgia for the WOTC era as that is what I grew up with as “the standard”.

Yeah matter of opinion. I think they look just as good in my opinion. As far as all the shining cards go the only one i dont like is shining charizard. I just don’t understand the artists thoughts on why looking at charizards behind (butt) was in any form a good idea lol. As far as the cards being to cartoon looking matter of opinion as well. I feel like all the pokemon cards look that way. The case and point of of why it’s pokemon, just that each card in the TCG has it’s own style.

I was kind of hoping they would of went with the same border that the japanese version did as well. The japanese one is so pleasant to look at. I’ll stick with my collecting ways though. Unless it’s japanese exclusive I’ll always buy English.

After responding to you and thinking about it, you’re right. Wizards used better quality cardstock too no doubt which may effect how the yellow looks.

I have thoughts but I’m going to wait until I have mine in hand.

It’s meant to be flying away. It’s just taken off and is leaving you behind.

I think that’s kind of the problem with the Neo Shining Charizard though…I don’t want to see it flying away…I want to see it exhibit its sheer, raw firepower (literally) and/or that menacing glance that only Charizard can really convey…so in that regard, I have to agree with silentoaths on that one.

That said, overall I really like the idea of Shining Legendary Pokemon, which is why Shining Legends (along with the Call of Legends SLs) really appeal to me; on the other hand, the WOTC Neo Shinings I was only ever really drawn to the Shining Tyranitar and Mewtwo, and not much else. Gold Stars are exempt of course when discussing these Shinies as they are on a tier of their own and extremely iconic.

I just really like the old Shinings. Shining Magikarp is probably one of my favourite cards.

I like the old ones as well, especially shining gyarados. It shall someday be mine. This shining legends set though I honestly like it. It’s the first new set in a very long time that I can say I’m actually excited for.

Was talking to someone just now who has opened just shy of 7,000 (yes seven-thousand) Shining Legends packs, and he’s pulled only 14 Rainbow Rare Raichus…or about 1:215 packs. Holy crap…if that somehow holds up as the pull rate for that card… :open_mouth:

As for the Lab Mewtwos…he said he’s pulled just about double the number of the Rainbow Raichus, or around 30 (but he’s sold them so fast due to demand that he lost track of the exact total number).

Glad I managed to snag the only Rainbow Raichu listed on eBay…had phenomenal centering and a flawless back…should be heading to PSA next week. Not yet sure if $55 was an overpay for it or not, but would say it’s worth it for sure if the pull rate really is that abysmal this early on! :stuck_out_tongue:

The SM series might have high pull rates but the sheer amount of product being opened will keep their prices low.

Personally I’ve always liked this decision by Pokemon.

1:215 really isn’t bad comparatively if you consider that getting ANY secret rare at all is usually 1 in 2 booster boxes (72 packs), and all three main SM sets have had 20+ secret rares each so far.

Not sure if the topic of the Mewtwo SR card has come up, but I was talking to someone on Facebook, who sent off 20 of them two weeks ago for grading •___•

Sets not even officially released yet and it’s going to be inflated AF
