eBay Garbage

I have pages and pages of zards like this… which are now helping me pay for grad school. You never know. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Entering “-proxy -metal -sticker -not” is getting REALLY old. :unamused:

I bought something using eBay bucks in early April, returned it, and finally got the refund today after 10 calls. They said they were escalating the situation each time I called, so I guess it finally got to the CEO or god

Initially wasn’t gonna put this in here but after thinking more about it, I decided I would. I bought a sealed Neo Destiny blister around late March off a seller who had Pokemon items listed on their eBay and recent feedback as a seller of Pokemon items, which is important to note. The pictures looked good, nothing out of the ordinary. The description stated something to the effect of ‘this blister is 20 years old and may be fragile… they will be packaged inside a tamper seal bag, returns are only allowed if the seal is not broken… no returns are accepted if the seal is broken…’,. The last part was a little odd to me but I continued nonetheless.

My girlfriend’s birthday was that weekend so when the item was delivered, I basically got it from the mailbox and dropped it off in the house on my way out the door for a weekend vacation. When I got back I didn’t even think to look at it, which was ultimately my big mistake. Fast forward a few months and I take the tamper seal off the team bag and the plastic on the blister is literally hanging on by a thread, to the point where the pack could very easily be taken out and replaced/weighed etc. By this time it was already much too late to return and I’d already rated the seller so I accepted that it was my fault for not inspecting it closer.

Looking back at the description though, there is no mention that the plastic is on so loose that if the ceiling fan is blowing too hard it might come off. I’ve had my fair share of sellers (which seem to be older women judging by the names) that don’t understand that the blister’s condition is important, and ultimately damage it with their shipping method. But this seller seems to regularly deal with Pokemon, so I can only assume it was a bit shady to not disclose that. Plus the fact that they basically tried to deter someone from returning if they broke the tamper seal, which I’m almost 100% certain isn’t something they’re able to do anyways.

All in all it was certainly my mistake in not fully inspecting the condition and assuming, but I still think it was pretty shady practice to not show in the pictures that the plastic was THAT loose, make no specific disclosure in the description, and try to deter people from returning after breaking the seal, almost as if they were hiding something and trying to cover themselves. I’m not going to air the seller’s name out on here unless personally asked as I wouldn’t necessarily classify this as ebay garbage (maybe just shady practices), but let this be a Public Service Announcement to ask questions before you buy and look thoroughly when purchasing something like this.

As a long time ebay seller, we appreciate when customers get back to us about issues. Benefit of the doubt (or if honest mistakes) if something went wrong like damage in shipping, a quick timely review and response is best. Some sellers are snake oil salesmen/women, however so again, it’s always best to check ASAP. That does sound like a rotten deal tho, OP. =(

PSA:
eBay has a new return policy for “Item not as received” claims, so for any new eBayers here, please review that. It might surprise you. (Seems a little short to me…)

As a buyer, I might have contacted the seller anyway over a “not as described issue”, EVEN though it was after the return date, because things happen. The worst they can say is, “No Dice!”

First thing I found when browsing eBay for a 25th Anniversary pre-order :'D

As a ebay seller, can you ask ebay to step in and handle a return dispute? I know you can as a buyer, but not sure if I can as a seller.
I called customer service and they said I am in the right after looking at my case but they cant do anything for a few days for some reason. I was hoping they could hop in and end this stupid case

It’s gotta go through due process. But I think you effectively did ask them to step in. Amazingly, I’ve never had this issue.

of course!

Ive been sent to the high risk dept of ebay to handle this case
(which btw is just a sale of a graded card, customer asks friend and friend says he overpaid then customer asks for refund due to friends expertise - quite possibly the stupidest case ever)

lol hire a pokemon guy if you’re gonna be making adds about how great your new pokemon policies are!

Add this guy to the blacklist. Scammer is trying to sell an Illustrator with a new back, trying to pass off as real. He sold a fake Mickey Mantle card and pretended to not know any better.

buying graded card then returning it because friend told him he overpaid and ebay agrees with this bs

Checked his ebay page. That guy has only multi-level marketing cards for sale. Thats enough to know he is blowing smoke and can’t be dealt with.

If someone posts a card THAT rare for way under price, they HAVE to know something is up… C’mon! They really expect to feign ignorance?

Managed to catch a Mew Gold Star raw very near mint for just $200. It was from a new seller, so it could’ve been a scam, but they responded to messages and provided more pictures when I asked. So I rolled the dice. Sale went through and they shipped. But then got a message later that same day saying they had to cancel the order because they found out they had severely underpriced it. I don’t blame them, but dang. Ah well.

The best part is the 1st edition in the auction title, without a 1st edition symbol in sight, as cherry on the cake.

Anybody buy singles from Troll and Toad lately, either through their site or through eBay? I bought a nonholo Skyridge Machamp for like twenty bucks a week or two ago, and it showed up in a soft sleeve and cardboard envelope with no toploader.

The card was undamaged, so I’m not gonna complain directly or leave negative feedback (all’s well that ends well), but come on. Private individual sellers get eviscerated in feedback, on Virbank, etc. if they mail even a $5 card without a toploader. I’m a pretty high-volume seller and the thought of mailing a card without a toploader has never even crossed my mind. Are we supposed to hold one of the most profitable, established, and well-known TCG vendors out there to a lower standard than private secondary market sellers, or what?
