It’s a no for me

Unironically the FIRST card that I bought when I started my skyridge set.

Don’t listen to them, little angry Shrimpdos

Fantastic artwork, a true standout in all of the Pokemon TCG tbh. You may (or may not) appreciate it more when you know the context of Kimiya Masago’s main artistic work - which isn’t Pokemon, but martial, brutal, grim Samurai scenes.

Somewhere between good and no strong feelings.

Im a big fan of Gyarados cards. While I dont have a strong opinion on this one, I can safely say that it’s among my least favorites.

Good art but not always for me. This card has me undecided most the time, sometimes i cant stand it but other times I see it and think its amazing. I think its the level of intensity that can be a bit much.

Can you explain the explosions in the background

Obviously those are the brutal samurai exploding.

It creeps me out. I like gyarados but im ok without this one staring at me.

Michael Bay Shrimp Trash

Didn’t think this card’s art was that controversial but that’s the beauty of it being unique enough to appeal to different tastes.

I personally love it. Looks like an apocalyptic eldritch abomination, which is a defining feature of a lot of Masago’s art from that era (think Neo Discovery Kabutops or Skyridge Alakazam). I like it when Pokemon look like actual grotesque monstrosities, which is a rarity nowadays due to the sterile hold TPC has over the depiction of their creature designs.

With that said, look forward to my thread soon where we vote on why Skyridge Raichu is an affront to humanity and deserves to be nuked off the face of the earth.

Kimiya Masago’s repertoire of haunting interpretations of Pokémon has some of my absolute favourite vintage cards:

But this one, just aint it for me. weird proportions (exactly how long is this Gyarados?!?), some random fire, and strangely tonguey.
