Do you think Pokemon should do a True Base Set Reprint?

Celebrations did Johto dirty. Clefable? Come on…

They should do a set that encompasses the 1st appearance of every pokemon to date. The ultimate collection. Then a set that encompasses a whole new group of pokemon.

the early bird catches the worm

What the hell do you get from a reprint that you didnt get from evolutions? I dont understand your desire for minutia here

I would much rather Pokemon produces a special set with the original WOTC template rather than just do yet another Base Set reprint.

We got a taste of this with Light Toxtricity. Let’s do a whole set with it.

Think Japan had this which is awesome. I remember someone on the forum picking one a year or so ago from the last time they did this.

The Kaiba briefcase with three blue eyes.

It seems you had to preorder and they were request purchase only. Had to be done between September and October 22 and they are only delivering from April 23. Plenty on eBay though for around $300 which is basically what the retail was.

Hope not, Konami is shit.

Yea I have the JP. theres an american coming soon i believe

This would be a pass for me as well. I already have a base set binder that didn’t cost a lot and don’t really need a reprint. I can understand why some would be interested though.

Ok

But what if Pokemon did it to make it more obtainable for newer gen to get a feel of what the boomers had in 1999?

Kids these days are only happy if their dad buys them a graded card. I can’t believe what they have vs what it was like for us growing up.

tldr: I’d like to see some Base Set arts, but I do not want to see Base Set packs on Target shelves.

it lessens the original cards.

Its one thing to have reprints every now and then, its another to mass produce a 20+ year old set and have it be available in quantities never before seen. There is really no strong reason to do this. It feels like a cash grab, more so than sets like Evolutions, Celebrations, or the upcoming Pokmeon Classic.

Whether someone can afford to buy the original cards/products is not something Pokémon should be concerned with. I disagree in framing the inability to buy or open old product/cards as a problem for Pokémon to fix.

I am fully for reprinting arts, but it has to be done in a mild way. Pokémon has clearly been navigating these waters for years now. Regardless, their priority has to be on making modern as enjoyable and successful as ever, without using reprints as a crutch. Seeing arts come back in “luxury” products or anniversary sets is a much stronger and well thought out plan than simply reprinting whatever set they want on a whim.

No thanks, its one of the problems with YUGIOH. Collectable hobbies need to evolve and change, not keep the same product on the shelf for 20 years. If you missed it, too bad? Celebrations and evolutions are enough.

I’d like to see a reprint of base if every card was done with the star holo pattern, no stamps on every card. Would love to get a Dragonair and Lass holo!

It wouldn’t be the same for them because the newer generation of kids didn’t grow up with Gen 1. Base Set felt like Base Set because of the time it was released.

Most of the current generation of kids couldn’t care less about Pokemon like Magneton, Hitmonchan, Poliwrath, etc. I would even go as far to say that Blastoise and Venusaur aren’t that popular with them (or at least not in the same way they are popular with those of us who were around in 1999).

There is absolutely nothing Pokemon can do to recapture the feeling of 1999. Evolutions was probably the closest thing to it, and even that was mainly for the older collectors and not so much for the newer generations.
