You right Digimon isn’t in the same league as Pokémon, especially here in the west. I know its doing quite well in Japan (Has three sets so far) but first and foremost its a trading card GAME. Releasing a game where players need to be face to face in a pandemic is just one added challenge for it.
i might just buy the singles of the ones i want (hopefully they have magnaangelmon, wargreymon, garudamon…). this looks pretty good, but doesn’t quite blow me away.
Basically the Japanese has (or will have) 3 sets released (BT01, BT02, BT03) and the English version will release these cards across two sets (of sorts).
Not currently a big fan of how BANDAI are marketing this TCG.
English Version 1.0 is scheduled for release end of January 2021
English Version 1.5 is scheduled for release end of February 2021
Also Chaos Cards has a decent blog post explaining in more detail
10 Alternate-design Tamer cards - Get these as box toppers in Ver 1.0 booster boxes
5 Alternate-art of rare cards with Gold Foil and BANDAI are calling these Super Rare cards - Get these in ‘‘Dash’’ packs which you get for buying 12 booster packs.
“Each Dash Pack contains 1 of 5 alternate-art versions of select cards from the main booster, including a Super Rare card!”
My understanding is that this means each Dash Pack contains an alternative art card with a gold-foil stamp. Among the 5 possible alternative art cards, one of them is Super Rare (i.e. the Machinedramon). “Super Rare” is simply a rarity designation that Digimon uses for their cards: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, Secret Rare.
As far as getting Dash Packs, I’m assuming it’s similar to how it’s done in DBS. Your LGS will be provided 2 Dash Packs for every box they purchase from their distributor. They are then suppose to pass those onto eligible customers.
So just opened my first Digimon booster box! Well impressed with the cards. I believe they have hit the nail on head with these sets. Was bit concern at first with three sets getting released 2ish set (ver 1.0 and 1.5) but never been so happy with the rations. That sweet balance of getting enough but leaving you wanting more. Here’s why I like it:
None of this reverse holo BS, certain cards (22 in ver 1.0) have parallel prints or alternate art.
Rares have this lovely gold trim.
Box toppers!
and just three secret rare’s (thank god)
also got 1 super rare in roughly 2-3 packs.
Makes me really want to get master sets while pokemon master sets seem like a massive task that takes up way too much time. Also with my pull ratio walking into my LGS I feel I can buy four packs and feel quite confident on getting a super rare. Unlike Pokémon I feel like I’m wasting money if I’m not buying a ETB or Booster box.
