CGC to PSA Cross-Grading Result

Agreed, Ive had multiple regrades with 9.5’s that never got a 10, and three got downed to a 8. The rest 9. I never get a grader in a good mood. Which is surpsiign because they say theres supposed to be multiple graders who check your card, but in reality, i think one guy grades it, and the other guys just sign off and never grade it themselves

Nobody shows their downgrades, only their upgrades.

Same I was thinking, i have sent in allmost 100 crack CGC-slabs last year, and only around 24 with 9,5 get 10

I feel that every card with subgrade 9 or 9,5 on surface, get 9 at PSA

Was the CGC 9.5’s a Modern Japanese card?

Were the cards you cracked Modern Japanese?

I can say with confidence that out of ~50 Cracked CGC 9.5 cards, I have had 4 that didn’t cross to a 10

So I weigh all sub grades differently. I put myself into a position that is the best outcome for crossing. I will ONLY buy cards with 9 or higher sub grades. I never go for a 8.5 centering card, below 9.5 on surface, and corner and edges nothing below a 9.

I have cracked multiple CGC 9’s and have gotten PSA 10’s. It is not all the time that I get a PSA 10 from a CGC 9, but again, I analyze the cards very carefully.

Maybe I will come out with a video on my Youtube Channel about analyzing cards to cross. But, I would be creating competition for myself lol

Nah I’ve never submitted modern Japanese cards. I have a Uv light and loupe I use. It just seems like for me PSA is looking for any possible reason to not give a 10. Keep in mind I’m mostly talking about English WOTC cards.

As much as people despise card cleaners its these impossible standards for some of the 99-2000 cards that keeps them and the prices pumping.

Part 2 coming eventually?

That is the problem then. Not all eras are equal. I find significantly less risk in modern Japanese cracking than any English… I was lucky enough to cross this guy from a CGC 9.5 case.

Oh I know. I’m a glutton for punishment and like donating money to PSA before just sending a card to BGS apparently.

I’m new to CGC grading, can anyone tell me why some of their labels have 4 subgrades and some don’t? Did they introduce subgrades somewhere down the line?

It’s optional, you have to pay extra to get subgrades

modern japanese full art trainers! i resubmitted again but im pissed as my cost has increased

Interesting

A small unexciting CGC regrade sub for anyone interested in the current state of CGC:

Subbed these basically as an experiment since I hadn’t subbed anything for the better part of a year. I basically just wanted to get a sense of the current grading standards before submitting a bigger sub.

All of these were previously CGC 9s except for: Kyogre and Wailord, which were 9.5s, and Sceptile, which was a PSA 9.

Results are slightly worse than anticipated. The Lapras downgrade makes sense (I slightly damaged it when cracking it out – the first time that’s ever happened to me lol). I don’t understand the Alakazam or Sceptile downgrades; I’ll have to inspect those more closely when I get them back. I expected both of those to get 9.5s. The rest aren’t surprising.

Anyway, these were all cards that I thought had a decent chance of upgrading (except for the Kyogre, which I regraded to change something aesthetically unpleasing about the case – which backfired on me haha). I was optimistic for a slightly better outcome given that it seemed like CGC’s standards were remaining relatively loose (relative to what they once were). But none of these grades are loose, IMHO. Based on my results in this sub, CGC standards seem to be mostly in line with how they were last year.

TL;DR:

Aside from card that I damaged:

7/13 CGC 9s went up by .5
2/13 CGC 9s went down by .5
4/13 CGC 9s stayed the same
1/1 PSA 9 went down by .5
1/2 CGC 9.5s went down by .5
1/2 CGC 9.5s stayed the same

Pretty mediocre results given that I picked most of these cards specifically because I thought they had a good chance of upgrading  . On the whole, though, the grades are fair (just slightly harsher than anticipated).

Yes this has been known for some time now. Old CGC certs are .5-1 grade lower than they should be. CGC changed their grading standards right before releasing the pop report.

I don’t know how my 8.5 with zero sub grades got a 10! Lol

Almost all of these regrades were new certs. I’m not sure where you got the idea that I was even commenting on old cert vs new certs.

But since you brought it up, there’s not a 1-.5 difference between old and new certs. I wish it was that large of a difference because I literally own more old cert 9.5 EX stuff than anyone else in the world lol. But the difference is under .5 and probably under .3, in my experience. Or at least this is the case for pre-2007 English holos; maybe it’s different for modern/Japanese.

How does one tell whether a graded card is a new or old cgc?
