yes, i am literally shaking i want another base set reprint so bad!!!
I was a base set kid. Pulled a Gyarados as my first holo. Even I’m tired of looking at base and evolutions at this point.
This wouldn’t really fit for a 30th anniversary, but I’d love a continuation of the Holon region.

No more WOTC base please!! Time to really move on… to like reprinting shining cards or even the gold stars! And it would be real awesome to release another new gold star like Lugia gold star perhaps? But don’t make it a cheap promo like Greninja gold star. Make it one of the chase cards of 30th set that fans have to pull!
I actually would not mind a Base Pika reprint with an interesting holo pattern or an alternative background. At this point, having this card reprinted is actually welcomed.

Perhaps I should have made this clearer that by “alternative” background, I did not mean “extended” background like with the card you shared. More in the style of Jungle Persian with crazy unnatural colours or with Komiya style forrest. Just a direct reference to the original art.
In terms of “interesting” holo pattern, I had something like this in mind from the upcoming japanese set:

30th Anniversary set for 30 starters (gen 10) plus Pikachu, totalling to at least 91 cards in the main set
- Selectively textured Art Rares for Basic and Stage 1
- Fully textured special arts with the shikishi style gold etched foiling for Stage 2
- Full art in-game protagonists - Red, Green (Blue in EN), Ethan, Brendan, May, etc
- Full art in-game antagonists - Giovanni, Archie, Maxie, Cyrus, Ghetsis, etc
- Mt. Silver stadium card
30th Anniversary logo should be more elegant and celebratory like 20th was, that isn’t faded out by minimalist design which happened with 25th

It’s taken them multiple attempts but they have actually managed to do an homage to base set in a way that is actually exciting and fun with Pokemon 151 coming up. It’s miles better than Evolutions, which are some of the ugliest looking cards ever produced. They also feel fake and have the worst card stock the TCG has ever used.
Whatever 30th anniversary set they do should be a celebration of the franchise as a whole. Something fresh and fun that does throwbacks and reimaginations.

Yu-Gi-Oh for it’s 25th anniversary are reprinting 5 of their most popular sets. I believe the packs (and maybe the cards?) will have a 25th anniversary stamp on them to differentiate them. I went ahead and bought one of each box because I know I’ll have a ton of fun opening the packs and I can keep the boxes for display purposes. I know if they did something similar in Pokemon I would hop on that too, however, I don’t crave it in the same way. Maybe it’s because I opened a lot more Yugioh packs than Pokemon as a kid but I think it also has to do with how often Base has been reprinted in the last 10 years. I think if they do any reprints it should be something that encompasses all of Pokemon, not just the first set. I really liked Celebrations so I think they could expand on the idea for the 30th and do a full set which includes cards from all eras.

I’m so over any form of base set reprint for the forseeable future. It’s become so played out / lazy / over done, that it does ansolutely nothing for me anymore other than making me not want to engage with the product at all lol.
Why not reprint Jungle/Fossil/Rocket/Neo/E-Series and not base zard for the 8th time?
Why not make a Play Pokemon recongized format for the early sets?
I think something similar to what yugioh did would be really cool

I really liked the sun and moon commercial, that stuff like “you grow up, so we did” and in that same fashion I’d like something to help me pay my loan.
The spot could go like “Red has traveled for 30 years, now he’s found an home. Here is your set of card. Wait until it goes out of print and sell it so you can have yours too!”
