The only thing japan celebrations did better than english was the gold borders on the classic collection. That way it is more distinguishable over the original card. However their distribution of the classic collection is a major problem
I disagree, I love that the english cards are almost indistinguishable from a distance but vastly different up close. In fact I’ve been a little disappointed that the borders on some of the cards aren’t yellow enough haha. They’re a bit washed out compared to the originals.
There always comes a point where each set is widely available. Hidden Fates and Shining Fates were both very popular sets on release that you couldn’t get anywhere. But then months later they each had a stint where you could find them relatively easily for MSRP. I remember buying 5 HF tins from Target for $10 each months after release 5, and I found a bunch of SF in Walmart multiple times again months. I don’t know if that’s still the case for SF at this point (and HF hasn’t been printed for a while now I believe), but it just goes to show that it you give it a looksie every week or so there comes a point when you will be able to get the cards for MSRP and not have to go too crazy searching for them.
Glad to see this set being readily available. Was probably the most fun set to open in the past several years and wouldn’t want anyone to miss out on it. Although I really wouldn’t recommend that low feedback seller. I would almost certainly expect to be scammed if I bought that etb lol
Does anyone know if there is a release date for the US items that for delayed until November? I’m trying to decide if I can wait for my
Collector’s Chest or V-Union Boxes or if I want to try to get another ETB.
Yup, it definitely feels like 2016/17. An anniversary product which is printed to massive levels and will stagnate in price for years, only rising on the back of a global disaster and fundamental shift in the demand for trading cards.
Now, if you just want these cards for your collection, you can’t get any better than these prices. But if I’m looking for an “investment”, English Celebrations singles are about the last place I’d ever put my money.
As a collector I just feel the value for some of those cards are too low, it’s definitely a sentimental thing seeing a mint blastoise selling for like 5$. I think that’s why I hoard them also Pokémon isn’t the niche thing that we were all lucky to have for many years so I feel there’s an added bonus having this new wave of interest in modern cards which could potentially keep these cards slowly creeping up throughout the years.
While money isn’t the motive, none of us want to throw money into a black hole lol
It’s a little disingenuous to quote the prices like getting XY evo zards in 10 condition was trivial. More likely you got a 9 that is now sitting around $140.
And as mentioned above, the price movement came on the back of unprecedented circumstances shooting demand through the roof. You could’ve picked damn near any card to compare pre and post-covid prices that performed just about as well, and tons that have much more stability at their new prices compared to evo zard. Going for the absolutely most common/liquid option and praying for an eruption of demand is probably not the most reliable stonk move.
Future returns aside, I agree the cards look great and some are already super cheap, so more power to you if you just want to load up a binder for yourself.
Also keep in mind that evolutions had terrible quality. As of right now there are about 17k graded evolutions charizard holos graded by PSA and only 324 psa 10s. Compare to celebrations charizard which have had 270 graded by PSA already and 209 of those are PSA 10.
This celebrations charizard isn’t gonna pull an evolutions charizard even if we got another pandemic situation 5 years from now lol.
