Does having close access to an international airport have a hand in determining location?
Other than the place of PokĆ©monās origin, Worlds has only ever been hosted in English-speaking countries. I assume that is a key factor in logistics
Close access to a direct flight from Tokyo maybe but I wouldnāt say Honolulu was exactly spoilt for countries to fly directly to.
Youāre from Holland?! No way! 𫨠Iām only 20 minutes north of Holland!
But actually, I would love a Chicago (Or Grand Rapids, MI?) Worlds. It would be so easy to get to.
Iām 20 minutes away from North Holland as well.
TIL there is a place called Holland in the USā¦
Anyway, Iām kinda disappointed as well. It doesnāt surprise me 2025 is on mainland US, since as mentioned, it has been held in the US since 2004 except for the past two years. But I would have hoped 2026 would be in Madrid, Spain, since that was the idea for the cancelled pandemic year⦠Ah well, maybe in 2035 or so it will be held in Europe againā¦
Greetz,
Quuador
We might have to plan a Michigan meet up lol Iām in Mt Pleasant
LOL
The US loves to name cities after various countries, regions, and international cities.
im going to miss you the most after smpratte executes order 66 on every country outside of north america
To be fair, the majority of people in Holland (Michigan) have Dutch ancestry (my grandparents were fluent in Dutch). The town has a windmill from the Netherlands with bullets holes in it from WWII, an entire Dutch village, an annual tulip festival, in local parades the Holland High School marching band even wears wooden shoes āIf you aināt Dutch, you aināt muchā as the saying goes
In an effort to not completely derail this thread thoughā¦yes, unfortunate for our European friends that itās such a hike for worlds. I would be curious to know how London worlds felt compared to Hawaii for anyone who went to both.
I think a lot of people need the reminder: Pokemon Worldās is not for you.
You cannot easily attend because it was not made with your attendance in mind.
The imaginary foreign child you are trying to get justice for was created in your own mind as a projection of your own inconvenience and disappointment.
A non-essential option not being on the table for you is not a harm to you.
No shade but you will be very surprised how little the outside world cares about baseball.
USA, Japan and Latin America (Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic) are heavily into baseball. I have played ball with guys from all those countries.
Probably rest of the world outside of that, yes I agree not too popular
angry latin and east asia sounds
The US even likes naming cities after other US states.
I am a tiny bit disappointed itās California twice and not at least east coast, but I probably wouldnāt have gone anyway lol.
This thread is weirdly passive aggressive. We can be both disappointed for our friends that live far away and happy for our friends that live close.
Any location will have benefits and tradeoffs. Picking California twice consecutively is a very conservative choice in my opinion, but maybe there are financial, political, or structural things going on in the background that we are not privy to.
This echos my sentiments exactly! As a Californian Iām ecstatic the next 2 worlds will be very easy for me to attend. However, I also feel empathy for EU, Asia, and other folks who will need to make the long trek as usual.
My first worlds was Yokohama and it was an absolute blast to visit Japan again. Likewise, I wouldāve enjoyed London worlds as well. Seeing as these 2 non-US locations are outliers my own speculation is TPC/TPCi planned these during covid as a way to make up for missing 2 years. I have no evidence but Iād like to believe the planning behind these 2 locations was special.
California is a huge state with many beautiful locales, micro-climates, and things to do so I hope people will be able to appreciate Anaheim and San Francisco both. There are very few worlds locations I wouldnāt attend to a reasonable degree.
Hope to see everyone at Worlds Anaheim 2025!
Fingers crossed this is finally the first Worlds I can attend. A plethora of regional events, but not a Worlds.
I think we can all agree, EU and USA, that the California double dip is a bit much. Especially when beautiful cites like Toronto
are right there on the East coast reaching out to Europe
YESSSSSSSSS, this is practically my own backyard
At a later date, I will announce my go to TOP 10 coffee shops, that you must visit while in SoCal.
