Looks like I only have to make a 30 minute drive to make 2025 worlds. Guess I’m gonna attend my first worlds if tickets are reasonable.
But 3 consecutive worlds in the US?

Wow. If only I had known competitive existed when I was a kid. I totally could’ve gone to so many of them between Anaheim and San Diego.
Don’t know why I thought they rotated between Japan, US, and Europe on a yearly basis. Guess it’s that recency bias, since this is my first year actually watching competitive on any scale.

Not excited that it’s in California two years in a row, but it’s nice that it’s still gonna be easier to get to than Japan or Hawaii! I guess I’ll be seeing you there next year!

It’s been like this since the beginning. Since the start of the annual World Championships in 2004, Worlds was held in either Florida, California, or Hawaii until 2014. The first time Worlds was held outside of North America was in 2022 in London. Having two back-to-back Worlds outside of North America was unprecedented. The 5 years Worlds has not been held in California is a record streak.
By this point, I think it’s clear that “World Championships” refers mainly to the competitors being from around the world, not the location traveling around the world. However, by Pokemon’s standards, the last few years have been the most international that Worlds has ever been.

So apparently the 2026 World’s location was already leaked prior to today’s announcement at Worlds as the venue told someone that the event space was already booked by Pokemon. I spoke with the staff member who sold me their staff paradise resort card and he said that there are a bunch of people who call venues all around the world trying to see who booked certain venues. Although I’m not too sure why they chose Anaheim if they already knew they were going to do SF…

E4 disneyland trip apparently should happen. You can get photos of your favorite pokemon card or plush being a disney princess! Also fireworks every night!
