2025 Worlds Is In Anaheim California!

Wasn’t that obv after we still haven’t gotten a pokemoncenter? Lol

I swear I seen in a thread here when this years dates was announced ppl said it was going to be in Australia 25…. Oh well

I guess so, such a shame. I guess the memes are true about the organiser being a Japanese cowboy and golfer.

To be fair, the 2023 Worlds in Japan was nightmare management. The planning was just done way too poorly. I read a lot of stories about a lot of people not being able to play their games on day 1 due to disqualifications and disconnects and just everything being overcrowded. Not to mention, Japan does everything on a lottery basis, including main and side events and also the Pokemon Center entry etc. I guess to fight against scalping but it also adds a lot of uncertainty that you may not be able to go to any event even if you go to Japan.

Purely as a viewer and resident in EU I would much rather have Worlds closer to home, even if I cannot attend, I can atleast view the streams at a reasonable time. This year the streams were not enjoyable for me personally due to the time difference and also pretty bad stream quality. I think a lot of eSport events do a far superior job to enhance viewership and Pokemon can easily do the same. I do understand why they choose the Americas over any other region, but this only means almost every other region gets short end of the stick. I also don’t know if the rules and regulations in EU have something to do with it as well.

I guess the whole competitive scene along with Worlds will undergo a change given the new rules that have been announced. TPC(i) cannot sustain the growing pace of competitive side and has to take drastic steps. I always assumed that the collection side of the hobby was expensive, but the competitive side is as expensive if not more in Pokemon.

Cheers!

Man Europeans have a one way obsession with the US.

The only reason Worlds exists is because of TPCI (American company). They host and run the tournament, which is comprised of majority US employees. The US also has the largest player pool and overall market. Not to mention the US has the least amount of regulations, making it easier for the 50 countries to attended. This is why its held here, because it makes the most sense.

Honestly you are lucky the tournament was held out of the US. Pokemon Japan isn’t hosting any of their tournaments overseas. In fact no other pokemon tournament has ever been held outside of its host country. :eagle:

Tpci host them yea (the Pokémon company international) with like international with it.

And yes. It’s mostly run by US employees. Because that’s mostly the place they are located at.

Ofc America has one of the biggest player pools. There is where the most of the action happens.

Most of the stuff like pokemon day is already gone in Europe. And if there is any special thing or card. It’s mostly for America. Pokemoncenter has a special promo? Sorry not for Europe. Ooo a special promo if you buy in the US? Whoops not for Europe.

It’s hard to get people into collecting anyway when you get shafted every step of the way. Yea America is bigger. Yea it will get bigger. If the focus is on America. It will grow there.

And sure Japan didn’t hold their tournaments outside of Japan.

For a company that’s against scalping. They are doing a great job by limiting it to America on nearly everything.

Good thing the MLB’s World Series is held in different countries every year. Oh wait…

Blame Europe for crazy VAT laws that make it difficult getting product into the region in the first place.

So because of the VAT, Pokémon can’t sell exclusive stuff? Because the vat prohibits pokemoncenter exclusive promos, etbs whatever in Europe? Strange

I think there are a couple of angles to this. Firstly, how easy it is to host the event, i.e. what best for TPCi. In relation to that, the US is the clear winner.

The other would be, how is it best for everyone else. While the US is the largest single market, it’s a small minority compared to the rest of the player base combined.

More than the distance for most people, I think these locations just don’t feel exciting. For example, many E4 members went to Yokohama because they also wanted to visit Japan. When you can justify making a longer holiday, you’re willing to commit more. (Obviously this requires being able to commit the time in the first place).

You’re never going to satisfy everyone but 4 consecutive years in the Pacific feels like a step backwards by the pokemon company international.

With all that said I think most would agree there are more pressing things to fix with the competitive circuit; if keeping Worlds in the US means TPCi allocate more effort to those then it’s probably worth it.

I get that, but as @mrbubbles highlighted, having it even in the motherland Japan was cumbersome. Its similar to why the World cup or Olympics can’t be held in most countries. Especially with all the new game types being added = more people. While I personally think its quaint to have it in different locations every year, I just don’t know another region that is more of a net positive than the US. Its not even a pride thing, as I would love Toronto, Italy, Spain, its just common sense when considering all the variables.

Excited for this and will see you guys there!

Lame locations for the next two years.

If you’re sticking with the United States, at least diversify to other states or something.
Why not New York or Texas, places that have distinct personalities.

I, like many non-US citizens would probably rather see it in various countries other than the US (EU, AUS, Asia). But maybe that’s just because I’m Canadian and sick of the states getting all the fun😝.
I don’t think using excuses like location of employees and laws of foreign (to the US) countries are valid.

The Pokemon company has more than enough capital to take on a challenge and the diversity of their competition will entice more competitors from all over the world.

My suggestions for some midwest love for Worlds 2027:

Chicago, IL
Quad cities
Kalamazoo, MI
Wall, SD

For those that don’t know, quad cities means Davenport, IA area. I would be attending for sure then

Kalamazoo would be awesome! I’m from Holland, MI, so not far from home :sunglasses: Not to mention, I think Holland would also be a good venue…

Can we like… please stop generalizing?

Are those “Crazy VAT laws” in the room with us right now? But seriously, they haven’t prevented Wizards of the Coast, TPCi or any other international toy company for that matter from bringing their products to the European market for decades and since TPCi obviously already has a supply chain in place there’s not much blocking them from expanding the product portfolio other than a lack of will.

You should check what I’m responding to. Multiple Europeans saying the tired generalization, “America thinks worlds means US”. I’m just matching that energy, except I don’t have a hate boner for EU.
