Anyone already close have an eye on the line? Curious how many people are already there. Saw someone said a dozen or so.

I saw this on Insta so far.

I think there are about 200 people in line at this point.

Is it wrapped around the corner yet? As a local I know that Instagram photo above is taken from the street corner of the building

The line is wild , like around 250 now and growing

That’s disheartening, feels like a chance of a signature is slipping away for anyone going in the morning

Really? I’m across at the hotel with family… but not worth camping out all night. I’ll still try tomorrow - who knows at this point. My daughter got in for a session on Sunday, so she’s at least all set…

Question for all - what time does the center open tomorrow, and what time will the staff begin entering information into the SMS queue?

I see the professor session starts at 10:30 am, first live session starts at 11 am, and check in starts at 12 pm.

Don’t we have to register and get our spectator passes before we can get in the queue?

I’m not going, but based on what I’m hearing from the Discord it might already be too late to join the line for the SMS queue. Apparently the line has already hit 300+ people.

Same boat unfortunately, the line is so long there’s virtually no chance of a signature unless you’re in line already

I’m surprised someone isn’t live streaming the line!

Most of us are comatose. Send coconut water.

Since I ran out of things to do while sitting for over 12 hours in line, I began preparing contingency plans for worst case scenario of not receiving a signing at this event…which then led to a full blown brainstorming session with my equally sleep-deprived peers about possible improvements to this process.

If @Alec or any of the other organizers can confirm, is the main reason for the in-person registration to ensure event participation during the weekend? Or is it to deter bots from taking over an online registration? If either of these is the case, is there a reason why an online registration with photo identification verification cannot be implemented such that there is a nonrefundable amount of the signature fees AND an additional +$X (however much organizers deem sufficient to deter no shows) that will be reimbursed once the individual checks in at the event?

If the concern is uncertainty of the number of signings an artist can perform during an event, I feel like unlimited, unique registrations can still take place as long as a conservative limit is provided such that if the queue should exceed a certain number (based on data from previous signing events), the applicant will receive a “come at your own risk with no guarantee of receiving a signing” notification.

To make a really minimum viable registration page with these features (one that would still require oversight and involvement from the organizers day of the event), I would believe this could be created at around $10k, or an incredibly robust registration page for around $30-50k with minimal maintenance by nature of the page. By increasing the signing by a few dollars per applicant, the company could make back the cost of this registration page within several events, resulting in non-zombied participants.

How do you determine the order in an online list?

For the heck of it, got in line about 9:30 am this morning… was told there was about 400 ahead of us - so highly unlikely, but here’s to hoping!

Love hearing alternate ideas! Not having been to too many signings in the past, or seeing Baltimore, I’ve found Overload Events overall did great with the Arita signing, and things have been smooth for the most part!

Obviously demand in that 300+ people are willing to pull all-nighters camped on the sidewalk, essentially ruling out the possibility of getting cards signed for the general public - i.e. families arriving Friday, definitely takes away from the experience for others coming in later.

Some ideas I was thinking about too:

Only a set amount of spots are opened online or available to pre-register for the general lines. There are a total of 8 general line times for Charlotte. What if only 10 pre-reservations were taken for each general line (80 total), at a premium $, even in lottery format? That would allow those traveling in and paying for flight and hotel to know for certain they either made it in the line, Q&A, or have to gamble the day of…

Then 15ish additional spots per general line (120 total) are only available to the first people that line up when doors opening in the morning each day. Perhaps a new lottery situation each day?

I would also consider, doing the lottery for the Q&A sessions first, and anyone that gets selected, cannot pre-register for a General line spot, or enter the line again. And if you were able to pre-register for the general line, you cannot re-enter the cue/line for another chance. That would allow more people to get a chance to get some cards signed, rather than someone getting a Q&A spot and valuable line spot.

Just some thoughts, because some of us are too old to pull all-nighters! LOL

I think the tough pill to swallow is these events are for the artists, not the customer.
