Unfun fact - a couple of years ago 2 dumb players posted on facebook a post with a set of pictures of a ton of guns, nra stickers, and other smaller weapons with captions along the line of “Ready for worlds - here we come”. Someone alerted the venue of said facebook photos and apparently the worlds bag check that year was pretty strict. Said individuals got jail time of course. The community pretty much acknowledged it was just a dumb joke on their part, but better be safe than sorry.
That said in other recent worlds they haven’t really done bag checks. Some regionals do, some don’t, I think its more a venue thing (And/or to try and cut down on sales on the premises which they have tried to do)
Never really got into playing the TCG (collecting yes, obviously) but I find I really do like VGC 18. While I don’t have a 3DS I do enjoy playing on showdown and I would be happy to play anybody there with a laptop! I also enjoy other metas such as first gen and occasionally randomized metas. So if there are any VGC/main series fans there I would love to play a few games!
There is now a Worlds 2018 channel on the E4 discord! This will be the ideal place to make plans and discuss for all attending this year’s festivities.
Nashville Open registration is also now open if anyone wants to play in that side event. Day 1 players aren’t allowed to register for it this year until/if they don’t make day 2.
Edit: Apparently its already more than 80% full with less than 2 hours since the anouncement
A reminder that everyone should pick up a spectator badge before the event. In San Fran they ran out of Spectator badges and competitors who got extras were selling them for $40-100 each there. On Heyfonte various judges have said the venue looks somewhat small/on the lines of San Fran and they kind of expect spectator badges to sell out again
Picked up a badge. No hotel, no flight yet. I’ll be booking very last minute, like probably a couple days before max if I end up going. Hopefully I make it down! Hope prices don’t get too nuts either. I’ll probably come for a single night and stay at the airport and just Uber over.
Would anyone who has been before have a recommendation on whether Fri morning to Sat night or Sat morning to Sun night would be better? As far as seeing a bit of the tournament and most importantly meeting a bunch of e4 members!
For tournament itself Sat-Sun would be best as Sunday is the finals. I’d say most E4 members are going to be there for the whole weekend if not a day before/after so either day works!
Day 1 of Worlds essentially begins Friday - Masters Day 1 plays then and side events start on Friday. Thursday is check in for competitors and thats when the Worlds Store typically opens as well in the evening. I’d recommend Friday personally - there are some exclusive stuff that is sold out at the worlds store by the time Saturday roles around and it gets you a chance to hang out a day earlier/play side events and stuff
Workaround: If you did not get a spectator badge, for $30 you can purchase a Pokken LCQ badge. It will function the same, you get six booster packs, and you get a shot at qualifying for the Pokken World Championships.
Multiple reasons: you should be able to buy one there (they may have saved some for on-site, or just get one secondhand), a lot of the E4 stuff we will be doing doesn’t necessarily have to be in the convention center, you don’t need a badge to get into the Pokemon Center store.
Badges are really only used to get into the free play areas, watch matches, and just hang around in the convention center. Even if you aren’t able to get one once you get there, not having one doesn’t mean your worlds trip will be worthless!
Flight booked. I won’t be there long… but I’ll be there. Should be in the convention center area around 10AM Friday morning and then I’m out and about until the bars close down then flying back home at 6 AM Saturday. No hotel so we will see how that goes haha.
Hopefully meeting as many forum members as possible and checking out the tournament and worlds store a bit. Can’t wait to make it down. Will definitely be looking to do lunch, dinner and drinks with whoever is out and looking to meet up.
I’m trying to coordinate a dinner for the Friday, as I’m assuming that’ll be the night most people are free and able to come together. Saturday I know is typically more crazy for those individuals who might have plans to go somewhere nice, or meet up with their closer circle of friends and Sunday is more hit or miss for people actually staying in town.
The reason I’m trying to coordinate a dinner is – We are a big bunch going this year so we most likely need to book a restaurant far in advance. We are thinking probably steakhouse or something like that
