Everyone is saying this market “doesn’t make sense anymore” and in some ways, maybe that’s true.

But at the same time, the fundamental answer is clear - available supply at this moment in time simply cannot keep up with the insatiable demand at this moment in time.

And the people entering the hobby now are far more willing to spend big money in a way the collectors of the past were not because, in addition to desiring the actual card, they truly see it as making an investment.

I feel like newcomers don’t know the prices of the past either. They just come in to the hobby and see the current prices. So they’re not in disbelief or have as much sticker shock as the rest of us do. R he rest of us see 1st ed base set zard psa 10 as going up 4x inside of a year and are flabbergasted. Newcomers see the price at around 200k and go “cool.” And then drop mad bills

whats crazier is unl base 9 zards are up 10x on the year, i got back into pokemon (and cards in general) a bit late…

but still just in time (1st ed psa 9 zard bought for 9k, psa 10 unl zard bought for 4k, base set box bought for 4k) and much more all bought this year

That’s kind of surprising since psa 8’s are going for 28k as of the last sale.

Looks like a clean copy that could be BGS or PSA 9.

Where did you hear of this, if you don’t mind me asking? (Obviously I don’t mean to ask for the specific parties involved, but was this on IG, or elsewhere?) This would represent a massive jump for the 8 in such a short time frame; it is really hard to keep up

Agree. Thanks for being civil. Private message on IG. I take absolutely everything with a grain of salt unless prices come from a reputable and well known source. This particular one is 50/50 but still reportable given pwcc auction prices and other card pricing un different grades.

So many flakey buyers about it seems especially with these higher value items. Maybe this buyer seemed legit and the seller just decided to go with it for a guaranteed sale rather than risk being messed about for a few $K.

good point! I know I wouldnt have the balls to crack a card worth that much, id probs slip up shaking so much with nerves and damage the card

I probably wouldn’t. I plan on going to Dallas this next year and have them regrade with BGS. You can have a minimum grade you want before they crack it open
