1st base Charizard psa 8 price evaluation?

I did think $43 was high though. There are others listed in high 38-39 on eBay. My assumption was it was bought to regrade but cannot confirm that.

O wow. I think there is a charizard on ebay for almost $40k? Why pay 3k more then an asking price on ebay. Would there be a specific reason or is regrading the reason?

My assumption was a possible regrade, but I agree with you.

It’s important to remember that not all cards of the same grade are equal. I’ve personally passed on getting the cheapest option of a card if it’s a weak 10 or a weak 9, for example. To me it’s good to hold out and pay a little bit more for a strong card within the grading parameters I’m seeking. Surely not everyone thinks this way, but it’s worth considering when asking why some cards sell for more than others. Of course, the seller and randomness are also factors to consider.

@mrc1eanup, @hyruleguardian, @obliviox91,yeah that PSA 8 for $38k on ebay is pretty beat so I’m not surprised a strong 8 got $43k at all.

Much like bulba said here, it depends. On higher end cards, something like a weak 10 can mean lots of money down the line. Also like I have been saying in other threads, not all cards/grades are created equal. This isn’t a specific msrp purchase, but a commodity that has a fluctuating price depending of supply and demand.

looks like a normal 8 to me

Agree for sure! That’s what I did for my zard.

Keep in mind that PSA USUALLY gets it right. I just bought a PSA 8 Reverse Holo Legendary collection Zard and thought it was a strong candidate for a regrade. Upon looking at it closely, I can see why it got an 8, but could see it as a weak 9.

PSA normally has the grade right is my point.

I agree with this. One time I had an extra voucher and nothing else to grade. I looked through every graded card in my collection to see if anything ought to be cracked and I found nothing that I was confident could get a higher grade.

Was offered $29,000 for my PSA 8. Can’t believe I turned it down but I just am not looking to sell

Agreed. For me, the thought of “I will never own this again” overpowers the $30k.

It will be interesting to see the trickle-down effect if the PSA 10 continues to sell for record prices.

Just the population of these cards are pretty boggling. 500 PSA 8’s in the world…about 1300 total between PSA 8, 9, and 10. such coveted cards with so little supply. I don’t think there are very many mint copies of this card left in the wild either.

Yup I’m a Canadian who graduated University about 2 years ago. I am very happy in my job but I make a modest 40k a year. That card alone right now is worth a years salary. If I were to sell now it just seems too unlikely I’d ever get the chance to own it again. I’m thankful I found this community a few years ago or I probably wouldn’t own it today

I’m fairly certain that both psa 8’s that week high 30’s on eBay are now sold. Anyone have any info on them?

Bump as I’m in the market for one. Last week there was a listing on Facebook for 28k and didn’t sell immediately.

Most recent 8 i could find sold via PWCC vault for $27,000 on the 27/10/20

And there were the 3 BGS 8.5s that’s sold between $27,000-$30,000 at auctions last week.

Anyone have any recent sales? I saw a psa 9 sold for roughly 36k today

I was bidding on that one. Seller was in Canada and didn’t have the most detailed photos otherwise I think it would have gone a lot higher. I got sniped at the 1 second mark :/.

There’s some retracing going on in the 8 and 9 ranges. I actually don’t think a 9 at 36k is actually a steal anymore. There was a clean 9 with a autograph that sold for 20k recently. Confirmed with the sealer via IG.

-edit: it wasn’t 1st ed. I am sorry for fake news. I will list my fake news on fox or newsmaxx in the future.
