Yugioh collectors

Thanks! I thought for a second someone got a great deal…

Two places that is easy to quickly check:

The stars (bad counterfeits always mess this up)

Hologram (bad counterfeits put a crappy sticker, and it’s usually not gold when it’s 1st edition)

No worries! If the font/color wasn’t obvious to you the Eye of Anubis on the bottom right is a killer!

The hologram serves as counterfeit protection as well as being used to identify the edition of a card. All Limited Edition and 1st Edition cards, in addition to being labeled as such on the card itself, will have a gold Eye of Anubis Hologram, while Unlimited Edition cards will have a silver one.

Thanks! I’ve been looking for a raw copy for a while, but am newer to the yugioh collecting so I’m still learning how to distinguish.

No prob! LOB is trickier because it is widely faked, and there are some pretty convincing ultra rare fakes out there. Your best bet is to ask if you want to feel safer, but another place for you to learn some more about them is to watch youtube videos of people cracking fake LOB boxes and telling viewers the differences between fakes and real ones. The more convincing ones are much harder to differentiate because the stars and hologram are better done.

Hey everyone! New to the forum here, but really enjoying the discussion here. I’m mostly into Pokemon, but have started looking into Yugioh since a lot of older Pokemon cards are out of reach. I’ve been trying to do some research (mostly on the Yugioh wiki), but it seems like a lot of information on Yugioh isn’t readily available like it is with Pokemon.

Does anyone know why the PSA pops are so low for vintage Yugioh? Is this because Yugioh was more of a playable TCG than Pokemon? Is grading something that just recently started? Is there less supply? Is it simply that the franchise is less popular?

I’m sure it might be some combination of the above, but would love to hear some thoughts from those that have been following Yugioh over the years.

Its really all of the above scenario. If i had to say the biggest factor id say its yugioh is new to grading.

Yugioh’s collector base is still pretty small, even though its only 3 years younger than Pokemon. But some of its iconic cards are getting up there in price, four to five figure mark.

You guys reminded me of yugioh and made me buy my favorite cards, thank you for that!

Besides the obvious choices like LOB etc I really love the GX ultimates, is there anyone out there who has collected them all in PSA 10?

I remember hearing about a guy on insta who has the whole original era (LOB - AST) in 1st ed PSA 10 but i dont remember who it is anymore.

I thought adding that word is important. Yugioh has a big collector base. They just don’t have deep pockets at all and have not dabbled in PSA cards much.

Thank you for letting me know! I basically have 0 specific knowledge about yugioh, I just started buying what I loved back in the day. Collected sporadically from LOB to the end of the GX era. It´s a real joy to see all those cards again!
Is there any (huge) ig account that is a must follow in the community?

Welcome back! There def are some great cards out there and is a nostalgic game for most people. I recommend taking a look at 5ds era cards as well. The ghosts and many ultis are just as nice if not nicer than GX era cards.
What kind of insta content are you looking for? If you are looking for good youtubers to follow JrbJobber and Ruxin34 are your way to go. The Old School Expert post occasionally on both platforms but has an incredible collection. I honestly dont use insta that much for collecting purposes so my knowledge there is limited.
Also check out Yugiohtube. He had a great interview with Gary a few months back and is very into the PSA market.

Great, will definitely check those out. I´ve already seen the Blackrose Dragon and already debated whether I should dive right into those, but held off for now as I wanted to focus on getting some Ultimate Rare cards from the GX era first. Me being a PSA collector doesn´t exactly help as some of them are really low pop and/or not availble at all.

I´d be mainly looking for content regarding PSA graded lob-gx collections as that´s what I´ll try to go after.

Makes sense. Better to collect what you like first and foremost.
Best of luck and keep us updated as your collection pieces together!

Yeah yugioh’s prices have gone up a lot with Covid too. I remember looking at 5ds 1st ed hobby boxes like POTD or EOJ at a little over $200 each and thinking they were too expensive during summer 2019 and passed on them all. Now they’re well over $2k if you can even find one.

Similarly with 5d’s boxes. These things were sitting $70 a piece and now majority are over $500.

Ghezzi TCG is definitely a must follow, he posts lot of interesting information.

No one has all GX era ultimates in PSA 10 (at least in 1st edition). Those are a nightmare to grade and the most iconic ones are priced pretty high. Some don’t even exist in psa 10. For example the Creator from Rise Of Destiny doesn’t exist as PSA 10 ultimate in 1st ed.

Wow, good to know. I already saw that some of the cooler ones already demand a premium. Will be a great challenge to try find/collect at least some of them. My favorites are from CRV and PTDN, the boxes are already commanding a pretty high price and the 10 Ultis are nowhere to be seen (at least not from my limited knowledge in the market).

If you get interested in sealed boxes be sure to check out the difference between hobby and retail boxes (and European ones). Personally I would never open a GX era box considering their price, unless it’s one of the cheapest like Rise Of Destiny. The chances of finding the ultimate you want is pretty much close to zero and the chances of it being a 10 are very low as well.

All the GX Ultimate rare cover monsters exist in PSA 10, it’s a top goal for many GX collectors in the hobby. Like completing the gold stars in 10s. There are at least 4 Creators that I know of. I used to own one. It could probably be because the ultimate rare prefix wasn’t introduced to PSA’s labeling system until 2018 hence ultis graded before were labeled the same as ultras.
