Yugioh collectors

awesome, thanks for that. i’m not a yugioh collector, but i want to pick up a few cards from LOB that are iconic to me. they are very affordable in unlimited. 1st ed is quite a bit more, especially as PSA 9 or PSA 10. but if the rarity is that big of a difference, that opens me up to considering picking up 1st ed.

Blue eyes SDK 1st Ed, probably the best card ever made and crazy underpriced. I would put it on par with the LOB Blue eyes and it has better art work. I think me has to buy some

Anyone know what the unlimited ghost rare black rose dragon in psa 10 would go for?

Got this thread up. Let me know what you guys think.

my guess would be around $1k but i have no clue and there isnt much data to show where it would be at

That’s kind of where I was too, $750-$1000…I keep a spreadsheet of my cards with cost basis and expected value and that one is kind of a question mark at the moment

It’s really good and useful! Many thanks for having that thread! I don’t collect unlimited precisely because of the reprint, but I may consider picking some stuff up in the future using your guide as a reference!

I’ve seen some reprint versions of the PSA 10 Chaos Emperor sold for $400 and I’m more shocked than surprised. I think maybe the OG might be worth that much but not the reprint. You can still open packs from Legendary collection for those. Hopefully collectors will eventually learn how to differentiate between one another for the more distinguishable ones.

I’ve noticed this for most old-school sets - I don’t think it’s a fluke but rather an indication of really significant interest in the old-school cards (reprint or not) - I personally don’t see the value going down despite all the product out there. In fact, I see it going up.

That said, unlimited sucks if 1st edition exists imo :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m sure if theres an OG and reprint up on eBay in the same price range and if you’re looking to pick up an unlimited, I know which one you will want to go for. And thats the thing, there are OGs and reprints in PSA 10s up on eBay at almost the same price range (last I check there was one OG and a couple reprints) but reprints sell. This is more of lack of knowledge to differentiate the prints in general.

If however people are knowingly paying this amount for a reprint, that can only mean the OG unlimited print is undervalued. It’s like people paying the same price for a CP6 zard and for a JP Base zard. It basically doesn’t make sense.

I agree 1st edition will always overshadow unlimited but think about it from a value perspective and take examples from different hobbies. $12k for a 1st ed BEWD or $900 for an unlimited? $4k for a 1st ed Red Eyes or $450 for an Unlimited? $2k for a Choas Emperor or $400 for an Unlimited?

I see LOB Unlimited print runs larger than 1st ed but not to the point of Base Set Pokemon. If the pop report is somewhat an indicator of print run using a popular monster like BEWD and Charizard, we have Pokemon (5.31:1 ratio for Unlimited:1st ed) and YGO (1.03:1). I fully understand people grading less Unlimited than 1st ed but even if you pump those number up 200% and we still get a 3:1 ratio for Unlimited:1st ed and keep in mind the pop report doesn’t separate reprints from OG.

AFAIK I don’t think the YGO community had the info to properly and accurately differentiate between OG and reprint, the majority just straight up doesn’t care about them.

I really like the thread but I also think that what’s explicitly printed on the card is what matters to 95% of collectors.

All unlimited is unlimited to the collector base.

What will be interesting to see if people will pay crazy prices for “Worldwide Edition” (LOB-EN001 as opposed to LOB-001), that’s an extremely rare variant.

95% sounds accurate and I agree with you, unlimited is unlimited. But keep in mind, in card hobbies where everything is being scanned down to the smallest detail, a card printed in 2002 and a similar card printed in 2014 and moreso a very important card in the hobby, people will care. Maybe not today, but I believe it eventually will. Wavy/glossy has become a thing even though 95% of collectors see 1st ed as 1st ed.

EN worldwide edition will be interesting to see unfold. LOB, MRD and SRL aren’t as rare as the other sets because they were released in more than one source while DCR is the rarest. But like you said, unlimited is unlimited and a lot of people see them as that, some used to even think of them as worse unlimited versions because they were a reprint set.

Over the course of the last few months reassessing my lifelong hoard. I’ve got to the part of it at Yu-Gi-Oh. Having the initial impression of these arts being for the most, generic kawaii fantasy kitsch, I felt was correct but man did I have an interesting Change Of Heart. Back even when I was a fan it wasn’t the best of times (2003-5) when I look back but enough of living in the past. Not only have I got inspired to discover the old sets but have also read this whole thread, @azulryu’s Dark Paladin Article, began to side watch Underground YGO for the funny relaxing down days, and complete the Abridged Series.

As confusing and bland as I found it with its overused, tedious looking, imbalanced types akin to the bad taste for my collection created the original opinion. Compared to what I’ve shown below that inspires me now speaks for itself and I admire greatly the underlining. subtle plot surrounding the art direction as a backstory akin to the game which I gathered a lot of respect in understanding the basis of extending cards is by adding more subjective plot decisions within the premise of each member’s family. Seeing Thousand Eyes Restrict gleefully wave goodbye was an awesome wtf.

Here’s some of mine that I’m happy I still kept. I’m not even big on the big three mascot monsters although there are certain variations that do it. Gate Guardian is probably the best thing I’ve ever pulled from a pack. Plus I’m glad I kept 'em which is something I regret not doing with the og Pokémon. Starting with one of my favourites.

Felt inclined to show off what the holofoil was made for.

Under current searching since here are cards I’ve always liked and others I’ve recently discovered as a unknowner. You can probably tell I’ve done a 180 from anything Dragons to more of the Egyptian themed Occult, Cosmic, Ancient, Dinosaur, Botanical (Predaplant), Abstract, Industrial/ Mecha ‘dragon’ (EDIT: holy shit just discovered Draitron, not bad), Gothic, attractive women side of the game (Not DMG, weebs).
 Besides Black Rose, Five God and Judgement, there’s really only a handful of dragons I like in mind that are actually worth looking at twice. The Match Winners are supreme for the most part (Testament and Grandopolis!!). Amusingly the most at the more accurate tip of the subject referenced is how the Lovecraft archetype already banned as a whole lol. Love Ultimate Conductor Tyranno and how it’s an amalgamation of S Conductor, Ultimate and Black whose the only good looking one out the bunch.

If red holofoil on text was a recent thing then it’s been definitely overdue. Respected TenThousand more when @quuador introduced me to the same back cover void be represented.

The Lucifer is the most beautiful card they have made. If only Horathky in OG Divine vein featured the same self Ivory beige pearl gold across the base and back like her children did…

May I ask what Unlimited and Japanese has appeared to increase if you mind me asking? Also meant to say for a while you’ve got an interesting icon! Had to recheck the Neo stock/deck art yet nope lel.

@kurtosisblakeinfini, Nice cards! Brings back good memories… I’m not aware of unlimited cards growing a lot, and I don’t know why Japanese cards grew as much as they did. My guess is that there is a big collector’s community for Yugioh in Japan, and of course they’d go for Japanese cards first. That’s just my guess though.

Thank you! It would have been different had you asked back in June. You mentioned DDS unlimited being notable but I’m unsure what is special from it yet.

On glance at Japan, I can’t speak for YGO entirely however knowing how akin to Pokémon they have the priority it’s natural to exclusivity goes hand in hand. YGO has an infini amount of rarity types that I can only hope span across the globe and into pokémon. For example, the recent Lucifer had 4 variants all the way to Prismatic, not sure also if that’s the same as Collector’s Rare?

man, with all that hype around collector rare and starlight rare.

I rather have konami bring back ghost rare instead.

@kurtosisblakeinfini , the dds Blue-Eyes white dragon has been considered the holy grail of the English tcg for years ( until the lob-001 Blue-Eyes stole its place).

Dds Blue-Eyes has everything it needs to stand out. The original artwork, it’s a prismatic secret rare, and it was only available in a limited version of the gbc game Dark Duel Stories. As a kid I saw the lob Blue-Eyes fairly often, but not once did I see a dds. Maybe because I’m from Europe and I suspect that Europe never got the limited edition with the dds Blue-Eyes. Anyway, that gave it the status as a legendary card in my region. But since 2017/2018, people started to draw an analogy between lob-Blue-Eyes and base set Charizard, as both are the rookie cards for that monster. I believe that comparison to be flawed, but anyway, that’s why lob BEWD is at 15,000, while dds BEWD is still at 3000 - 4000.

Well that is psychic to wish for that now

The big difference between dds and bewd is for dds you can buy the game and get it 100% of the time, and the print quality is very high. The game is still available for a couple thousand bucks and will have a dds in it. At one point there was a huge number of dds coming into market as someone bought a lot of the game and graded a ton of dds bewds out of it.

For lob bewd you need to open 5 lob boxes which cost $15k usd each to pull one, and print quality was comparatively lower. There’s no easy way to increase supply for it.

If tomorrow someone found a case of dds games, the dds bewd pop would jump significantly again. If someone found ten cases of lob boxes, lob bewd pop will only move up abit.

So it’s sorta no brainer than lob bewd should be worth much more.

@sgbased , lots of true points here. However, there’s a reason why for 15 years, lob was always below dds and not more than $1000. It’'s because of the demand. The original artwork and its unique rarity give it a certain edge over lob, which is just a regular ultra rare and has a controversial artwork. And while most countries had a chance to pull an lob bewd out of their regional edition of Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon booster boxes, nobody except Americans had a chance to buy the required limited edition of the dds game to pull a dds bewd. If you offered me a dds bewd and an lob bewd and I could only choose one, I’d take the dds. I just don’t see much future demand for the lob, even though it’s technically rarer according to the pop report. Demand trumps pop report in my opinion.

Edit: I also want to add that the remaining dds games won’t be available forever. The supply will dry up and the prices for sealed copies will adapt. So while lob bewd has a head start in terms of decreased availability of sealed product, the future could paint a different picture.
one last point: I don’t expect the number of released limited edition dds games to be very high (certainly lower than starter deck kaiba for example). So why then is the pop report for dds so high? One reason is the high print quality you already mentioned, and apparently one bulk submission. But I believe that the other reason is that people recognized dds as outstanding card from the very beginning and therefore kept more of these cards in pristine condition (until they eventually graded them). The lob was a booster card and more of a player’s item. The dds had its status for collectors from the beginning
