Yugioh collectors

Someone found a pallet of DDS lol and graded them

Well I can’t disagree that dds bewd looks better. Own all the variants and do agree that dds bewd is the far prettier variant.

The next few months could be interesting for dds. For years there were always dds bewds available as someone found a ton of them and graded them, but seems like the supply on the open market was just recently exhausted

I really like the bandai cards! I just picked up a bunch in order to make a full set of them. I love the art, brings me right back to my childhood.

Is there a reason why some 1st edition (and even unlimited edition) yugioh boxes are next-to-impossible to find? Specifically MFC/LODT/PTDN/FOTB. MFC I kind of get because of DMG (but then again, I see LOB boxes quite often), LODT/PTDN I kind of get because I remember these sets being really hype back when they were released (ghosts, tier 0 decks), but FOTB particularly confuses me, as I’ve been looking for it for quite some time now (at least a year or two) and there doesn’t seem to be anything interesting in the set (no ghosts, harpie/doomfire is meh) for it to be as non-exstent as it is right now?

Also, I recently saw a video by YugiohTube, a very knowledgeable yugioh guy on youtube who’s been collecting for years, where he mentions that for blister packs like GLAS/TAEV/FOTB, you can’t pull certain secret rares that you can otherwise pull in booster boxes. He specifically mentions that he has yet to see a Magical Formula being pulled from a GLAS blister. Is there any evidence/credence to back this up? Has anyone else heard something like this?

There’s a european guy who had a card shop with 12 or so FOTB boxes left, but he’s an absolute greedy grub. Says a price, I go to buy it and then pulls out. I can put you in contact if you’d like.

MFC I believe was NA release only so quite a few were exported to other countries.
LODT/PTDN were at the end when nobody cared anymore

I’m guessing that it’s hard to strike a fair deal with him? How much was he asking for a box?

What do you mean by LODT/PTDN being at the end when nobody cared anymore? I was under the impression that these sets were really popular, although my memory as a child might be clouding this as that was when I was just getting into Yugioh.

His name is Michael Thillerup on FB, profile pic is of a house from an aerial view. He’s the bloke who will go “i got this offer, can you beat it?” even though some offer i gave were the highest paid in the hobby.

You both are correct about LODT/PTDN. They were extremely popular sets and some people absolutely loved playing in those formats but they came out in the height of the recession meaning less people were playing and spending money on collectibles (although from what I have been told DADs were a $300 secret rare at the time which is crazy considering everything). Although I have no way of actually knowing this, the recession makes me think that these sets had lower print runs hence the scarcity. When I starting collecting sealed around 2013, they were very hard to find boxes but still found multiple PTDN at $80 a pop but only 1 LODT at $100 (wow have prices changed. wouldn’t have opened the PTDN boxes if I had known). In these ~7 years have only seen around 10 1st ed LODT boxes pop up on ebay and did not know how many there were out there till Halo God on insta posted a case a few weeks back. FOTB is an interesting one as of all the GX boxes, this one doesn’t have any Elemental Hero chase cards. Even 2 years ago I was able to pick up my box for $150 with there still being plenty around so I would not think this one is that hard to find. Makes me think someone is hoarding FOTB.

Holy hell he’s starting negotiations at 10k for LODT and apparently one recently sold on amazon for 5k according to the comments? I had a friend who had an LODT box a year or two ago who I could’ve bought for 2k, but hesitated, as I thought it was too much at the time (low-key think it still is). These box prices are getting kind of crazy for the GX series especially given that the odds of grading a 10 for the chase cards in these sets are nil given the condition that these cards come in even when they’re pack fresh.

The hoarding thing came to my mind, and I think @cosrob gives credence to this with Michael - found him on FB but probably will pass for the time being if he’s a hard baller. At this rate, I’ll probably move on from a completed sealed collection like I moved on from a PSA ghost rare collection, lol. Pokemon is so much easier to collect in the sense that there /actually/ is product out there.

LODT and PTDN were opened because the cards were so strong, that’s why you don’t see them out in the wild.

I’d put those 2 sets on par with IOC 1st due to demand back in the day.

I feel that. PTDN is actually the only box I need for my GX collection and when it reached $1k almost 2 years ago I was like no thank you and started to pivot what I was buying. and FWIW a 1st Ed LODT box sold on ebay in January for $3k after taxes. Halo gods prices are def hella high but with a box like that its not like it will go down anytime soon.

And DREV is not that far off. That box was so hard to find even a year or 2 after release.

Pot of Duality and Effect Veiler made everyone open their boxes. Even OCG the boxes were hard to find back then

and dont forget about solemn warning!

Looks pretty shady, the only card pictured isn’t even fully shown? We’ll see how it works out, it will be interesting for sure!

Just pre-ordered 4 boxes of rage of ra. That ghost looks so nice.

How large have their print runs of 1st edition been? They are doing a great job of catering to collectors lately. THe rest of the set looks pretty bad but its all about that chase. Thinking of sitting on a case or two

Anything besides the ghost ra going to be worth anything? Flip side has a pretty decent deal on the box considering one to open for fun
