Could anyone provide me with a bit of information and maybe a valuation on this please? As far as I know it was distributed to participants of Konami tournaments from August 2000 until sometime in 2004 when it was replaced by the Duelist Name Card. I imagine the distribution numbers were very high and there have been plenty of raw copies for sale over the years at around $10-15. However, the pop count is surprisingly low at just 6 for PSA 10 (10 overall).

Paging @papafrankgod

It’s 5-10 usd card raw mint condition. Idk the price of PSA 10 as it lacks a reference market value.

just curious, what’s the print run of the 1st ed vs unlimited for LOB, or in general the early sets of Yugioh? The pop reports at PSA are close for both sets, but the prices are very different obviously. not sure if the prices also reflect print run as well. thanks!

Unlimited has been reprinted to death so it definitely is tons larger than 1st edition; pop reports are probably similar because people don’t think it’s worth sending in unlimited to grade.

Same with spell ruler, pharaoh’s servant, metal raiders, dark crisis and invasion of chaos. The only exception is Rise of Destiny where unlimited is actually harder to come by than 1st ed.

stay away from unlimited in yugioh imo, or if do unlimited, stick to sealed booster boxes.

It’s not like pokemon where there’s no chance of fossil being reprinted. in yugioh they are still reprinting sets from close to two decades ago, the main difference is the eye of anubis on the bottom right which PSA doesn’t differentiate

Wow thanks for the info. I’m not into yugioh myself but that’s some next level evil to keep reprinting old sets. And you guys thought Pokemon was bad for reprints… Apparently it gets much worse in yugioh

Yes, Yugioh+unlimited=bad idea. Of course there are exceptions like the dds cards, which are limited by nature and will never have the 1st Ed stamp. I’d also pay attention to some japanese cards. Out of all cards I had purchased prior to the 2020 boom, it was Japanese Yugioh cards that grew the most. More than any Pokemon card.

Is there any way to differentiate the recently re-printed cards from the originals in the early 2000s?

Yes. The old unlimited cards tend to have a slightly different color (at least the normal monsters, the older cards are slightly more yellowish while the newer cards are slightly more beige). Here’s a direct comparison of an unlimited SDJ Red-Eyes (which was never reprinted after the initial unlimited print run and therefore always has the old color) and an LOB Red-Eyes that I believe to be a reprint from 2010 or younger.

That LOB Red Eyes is actually OG print.

Oh, you sure? How can you tell? I always thought the older cards had the different (more yellowish) color

Yes I am certain. I plan to make a thread on how to differentiate original prints and reprints of old school cards for some time now. Will update this thread when I do it.

Alright, I’m looking forward to seeing it!
On another note, what is everyone’s opinion on English 1st Ed Ghost Rares? Do they have a future as collectible mini-set? On one hand, they have the right size for a mini-set (41) and have a low pop and abysmal pull rate. On the other hand, most of the monsters lack the iconic status, except for Blue-Eyes, Stardust Dragon and Black Rose Dragon.

They are already a mini-set that’s been growing rather quickly I should add - last year you could pick up multiple 1st edition star eaters for $15 whereas now it’s $150, for example. The ones that have an iconic status as you’ve mentioned are going for astronomical prices now. And that’s just for ungraded copies. PSA 10 ghost rares are a whole 'nother beast because they’re so SO hard to grade. You can expect to shell out at least $1000 for even the most forgettable of the ghost rares. I miss the days where even Stardust ghost 1st ed. was $50… even then, I couldn’t grade a single copy that I purchased a PSA 10 (salty because ghost rares are my favorite cards, yet here I am years later without a single PSA 10 ghost rare, lol)

Given the number of psa 10 1st ghost rares that sell every year on eBay…not sure how you’re gonna put together the 41 set. Would take a good number of years…

Even a Mint 9 set would be hard to gather given that some of the ghosts have low pops
