@somepokemonguy I haven’t played yugioh in many years… Toon Kingdom looks like an interesting card, but agree with you there’s no way they’re playable. Back in the day, whenever you were matched up against someone who’d throw down a Toon World, you knew it would be an auto-win.
I started only collecting BEWD cards…
But realized some of their ‘prize’ cards were still pretty “cheap” compared to Pokémon. Here’s some I’ve managed to collect.
I know that specifically with English LOB there has many some changes to Cards as it gets reprinted over the years, so how do you truly know if you have a full set with cards having changed texts over the years?
@mjisaacs Not sure if your comment was directed to me personally since you quoted me, but unfortunately I’m not as big of an expert in Yu-Gi-Oh like I am with Pokémon.
I do know about the Wavy and Glossy print runs of the North American LOB set if that’s what you’re referring to.
And I know there were some errated cards, but I’m not sure if it was with within the LOB set in different print runs, or just reprints of the same card in other sets that had the correction. One I can think of is Trial of Hell that got renamed to Trial of Nightmare; and I think Two-Mouth Darkruler was a Dragon-type in the North American LOB print run, but Dinosaur-type in the Worldwide LOB print run. There might be a few others I forgot about.
EDIT: @way2slowbro Oh wasn’t aware of that, but you’re indeed correct. According to the wiki page of the LOB set, the Worldwide LOB-ENxxx version was also reprinted in 2004, and the unlimited North American LOB-xxx and European LOB-Exxx were reprinted in 2010. TIL. So there are quite a lot of reprints of the LOB set, which is probably what you were referring to @mjisaacs?
Yeah that’s what I was referred to @quuador , the big thing I’m wondering is about the errata on cards for those various releases. I have some articles that discuss the amount of times the various English ones were reprinted somewhere if I can find it… anyways but like the trial of nightmare thing you were talking about, it’s questions like does the difference exist in both first edition and unlimited? Is the errera only available in unlimited while the original is only in first edition? But that’s just one card. Trying to figure out that information for every card is a pain… and a question no one has successfully answered yet…
LOB-EN was released only in 2004 via the Master Collection 1 and Forbidden Legacy. Like the 4th print of base set actually. Same cards but with minor difference in appearance (the EN prefix).
The 2011 and 14 reprints are exactly the same as the original LOB without the EN prefix. There are some differences tho like the words in the text box, the corners, the literal printing of the card and the eye of the anubis. These are really very small differences only but the wording in the text box really differentiates between the originals (2002-2004) and them.
The reprint has a slightly larger spacings between each words hence pushing the last words further. I have a story post on my IG which shows the difference on an LOB blue eyes white dragon. The same way could be used on Dark Magician, Red Eyes and Chaos End Dragon. These are the cards I looked at at least.
EDIT : There was another reprint in 2017 too I believe.
@chok
Thank you for such a detailed post! Mind sharing your IG so that I can go check out the difference in pictures? Also does that only apply to unlimited LOB?
most sealed is still undervalued imo. The fact that you can still find most GX boxes on ebay says a lot. I think with the way those higher end items from each set are valued, if you get a psa 10 from the box, most if not all of your value is back.
Yes not all of them can but that fact that you can in some at least says to me that they are still undervalued. No vintage pokemon boxes get you anywhere near that point.
the interesting thing about yugioh and pokemon is their bull runs tend to rotate, almost like when we were kids. i don’t really recall a time over the past few years where pokemon and yugioh both shot up in tandem
