But… Yesterday I received mail from NOPPIN that they gonna stop taking orders November 1st due to the Covid rulings and lockdown of Japan Post, so a bit earlier start of Secret Santa might not be a bad idea at all! Maybe more countries will follow (and if EU → US will be as bad as back in March-April, shipments that are not FedDex/DHL/DPD/UPS can take 3 months to pass customs).
Very exciting! The concept of “Secret Santa” is still quite alien to a lot of us Brits, would be fun to give it a go!

I guess just factor in the cost of posting via international tracked shipping, reducing the size & weight of what you’re sending will obviously help too.
I think it’s indeed a good idea to start a bit earlier this year. My Secret Santa packages arrive at the intended persons usually at the start of January based on these past three years, mainly because I first have to wait a couple of weeks for things to arrive at my place from all over the world, and then wait a couple of weeks for my package to arrive at the intended destination.
Considering packages from the US take 1-2 months to arrive at my place right now; packages within Europe 1 week to 1.5 months as well (varies per country); and Japan 2 weeks to 2 months as well (depends on the shipping method); I think it’s good to start a bit earlier this year, even though Christmas is still pretty far off. I’m usually not really a fan of doing things too early (I usually hate it when I see ‘pepernoten’ in stores in August, which are the Dutch traditional candies for the Sint Nicholas Fest of December 5th), but given packages take a long time to arrive right now (months instead of weeks), I think my Secret Santa gift would be received in March or so if we start at the same time as last year and I have to send it to someone from the US… If we start let’s say next month, they might still arrive by January like previous years. 
Also, since this week things have become stricter again in my own country after the amount of infected has increased by almost 50% in a matter of weeks, it wouldn’t surprise me if this pandemic is going to last 6+ more months at this rate… 
Oh, and if we can do anything to make the preparations easier for you Charlie, let us know.
PS: As for every new member below 50 posts: try to come up with an interesting or fun thread where people can engage in and you can react to those posts, then you’ll have 50 posts before you know it.
