Hey everyone, this is my first buy list post so please let me know if I get something wrong or could do something better.
I have decided to attempt a run at collecting PSA 9 sets from the WOTC era. The sets I’m going to collect are listed below specifically. The amount of cards I need is high so I am hoping that bulk pricing will be ok. Let me know if not.
I see that on ebay there is often a struggle to get a decent return on non-gem mint C/U cards after factoring in the cost of grading, Ebay and PayPal fees, and shipping. Instead of trying to snipe those auctions at random over a longer time period I was hoping I could post here and offer on these cards to see if anyone is having a hard time moving a stack of them without losing money.
Since I’m working on Mint sets I will not be looking for any duplicates of each card.
Because I know the values are much different for 1st edition Base Set I am currently leaving those out of this post so please do not think I am lowball offering prices on those. I’ll work on those eventually!
If you have a specific card that technically falls under these sets but is a misprint, error, alternate, promo version, etc. I could be interested but that is not what I’m quoting for with these prices so don’t worry, I’m not unfamiliar and expecting to get them for regular C/U prices.

1st Edition Gym Sets PSA 9 Commons/Uncommons - $9 per card (energies $8 each)
1st Edition Neo Sets PSA 9 Commons/Uncommons - $9 per card
I am basing these prices off of sold listings that seem to vary a lot ranging from a couple dollars to 15+ dollars. I will be working on the Rares and Holos that I’m missing separately down the road.
I will discuss shipping specifically depending on how many cards we are talking about at the time but as a general notion I would be covering it.

You’re low bawling. Assuming some one got $7 grading costs you’re offering them $1 for booster fresh cards. I have sold menu psa 9 fossil and jungle 1st ed c and uc between the 12-24 usd range. 10-12 usd would be reasonable for psa9 if u bought in bulk.
Ok, thank you for the input. The last 12 PSA 9 1st edition jungle and fossil C/Us I bought on Ebay went for an average of $2-$5 plus shipping. When I search sold listings of 1st edition Gym Challenge C/Us I see a lot of the same prices though I do recognize that many go for more as well. I find that it’s hard to get a locked in value on them because of that. I also figured there were probably some people out there that have submitted multiple cards looking for 10s that have come back 9s and would rather get their money back instead of risking losing a few dollars on them.
I do understand the cost of grading being usually no less than $7 but I have also had a hard time selling booster box/pack fresh C/Us (besides the starters, pikachu, specific popular species) for even $1. Most of the time people have wanted them for $0.50 or less each. I could just be a terrible salesman though!
Either way I’ll keep on the lookout and see if I can change anything to make it work.
Yes it costs $7 + insurance/shipping to grade in bulk (~$7.30/card), but that shouldn’t guarantee we always profit with the grading decision. I’ve always seen grading as 10 is bank, 9 is maybe 20% gain, 8 is a loss based on what a mint loose card usually costs. I don’t think this applies for non-holos. There’s an overabundance of non-holos being graded an an underwhelming demand for 9s and lower. I could easily see some of the high volume graders take $8 per card x 100 to keep the cash flowing. They hoped for a 10 and got a 9. Now let’s get our money back and try again.
It’s okay to not make money on every card you buy or every card sent for grading.
@blasturtle I think you have the right idea buying 9s due to their price point. The difference between a 9 and a 10 can be very small. They are both cards that are likely pack to sleeve.
@gemmintpokemon Thank you for your input as well. That was sort of my view as well. I figure this is at lease a guaruntee to get the money back with a small profit for someone who has maybe submitted multiples of each card in search of the 10s and has ended up with a stack of 9s left over. Maybe they would like to get rid of a bunch of those at a small profit in order to keep the train rolling and reduce the risk of a loss on some of them.
I see the 9s for what they are; Mint copies of my favorite form of nostalgia! 10s are amazing but I don’t see the 9s as that much worse of a card that I can’t be happy with them. The price point on the holos and rares are so much less than the 10s that I have a better chance of finishing the sets eventually by going for 9s (given my personal budget and stuff).
I will always understand people wanting to hold on to their cards and/or get more money out of them though so there’s no hate coming from me! I have increased the buying price for most of the sets listed in order to give a little more room for people to make profit from grading.
OP, you should probably go after 1st Ed Base too IMO… You can get them quite cheap and I think it’s a good investment. Most of the cards are $15-20. Even rares are like $50 atm.
Oh I am! I was just nervous posting here with a blanket price for C/U or Rares because they vary. I don’t want to do a buy list post incorrectly given the recent discussions on how they should be ran.
I’m just snagging those up on the side when I can. I guess I could do an update to this buy list if I got the time to price out every card in the set.

I know this post is for the C/U and some of the ones I’ve listed are R/Holos. Some people reached out about C/Us and we ended up working deals for other R/Holos they had. Some of these were Ebay pickups or recently received PSA submissions but most were gathered from deals on here. I just wanted to update the list in case you have these and were wanting to reach out. I still have PLENTY to go!

It’s only been 7 days since first posting this and I’ve been able to do some awesome deals with some very trust-worthy people on here. Over 200 PSA 9 cards in just a week with no issues or complaints from me at all! That, to me, is the difference that this forum’s Buylist section provides. A curated gathering of like-minded, knowledgeable, and fair people willing to help each other out to reach their goals. Nothing like the facebook groups where I’ve done some good deals but have been scammed straight up and had to deal with a lot of stressful turns in deals for no reason. I’m sure you guys by-in-large can relate.
