WTB PSA 10 Bandai Starters Carddass #000

Sadly, I had ordered this card from buyee.jp recently, but it was lost in the mail despite it being an express package. It arrived at my post office just 1 block away from me, but they haven’t been able to find it for 2 weeks now and they finally told me it’s likely to be lost for good (although I can still file a claim).

I’m offering the same price I paid for it - $1,500.

Man, that really sucks to have a card like this go missing. I hope you can get your money back and can find a replacement quickly.

I think what happened is in mid-2018 Japanese auction sites mostly caught up with (and in some cases overtook) western world prices. No longer was it possible to make a quick buck by buying cheap from Japan and selling to an unassuming western audience. There was suddenly a void where flippers could no longer flip (I posted a few times last year about PSA 10 cards I’d picked up from eBay for cheaper than the raw cards were selling in Japan, for instance).

Because of this void, attention turned to the chase Topsun and Bandai cards which had mostly low value in Japan but high appeal in the west. Cards like this one suddenly shot up in value, and flippers could flip in peace once more. If you go back in time to early 2019 on Mercari you’ll find dozens of “unused” starters and checklist cards selling for between ¥2,000 and ¥4,000 (~$20-$40), meanwhile PSA 8 copies were starting to creep above $100 on eBay.

By mid-2019 prices in Japan for these started catching up again with the west, and I think we’re now on the final stretch of this. You can still pick up a minty copy from Japan for lower than you can on eBay, but gone are the days where these were flippable. Market balance has been achieved.

It’ll be interesting to see what the next wave cards to go through this process will be.

Please don’t mistake my post for criticism of this thread - $1,500 is a great offer for such a beautiful card - I just wanted to share what I believe is the catalyst which lead to the current value of these.

Back when you offered up all your bandai cards I seriously though about taking you up on the offer. I didn’t do it because I knew it would be too much work for me. In all, I think you’ve really underappreciated the market potential on bandai/topsun cards for a few years. Not all of them are gold, but some of them are creaping up into serious cash.

You and my boy PichuFan have convinced me to work out a time to mess with these. Thanks:)

It’s not an easy graded even if someone has numerous copies.

It’s extremely unfortunate what happened with this card, it’s such a hard card to find in gem condition. I had 2 and one got lost in the mail as well, that’s 2 of the 14 PSA 10’s lost. It’s a fantastic card, I hope you get your money back and can eventually get another one.

I just dealt with this for a full month of watching my pkg track back and forth daily between post offices before finally disappearing from radar. After trying in person, on phone, through their formal claim etc. I tried the “missing mail” option and they started a mail search which is apparently a different group of people and direct-thru-post office effort… not through months of steps from USPS.com down to your local mailman.

Seriously had given up hope after 1.5 months of BS and the missing mail search found it in 2 days, marked it to RTS and renewed my faith in the post office. Hopefully that’s something that you might be able to try (just realized I didn’t bother to see if you mentioned USPS at all).

Also forgot to add, post your tracking info and story to the USPS sub on Reddit. Lots of postal employees moderate there and though they don’t personally take on your crusade, they give very good advice including additional tracking details you can’t get online or through customer service. Each time your package is scanned, or parked for the night, or set to head out in the morning… each scan logs GPS coordinates of its location. If you haven’t asked for this you should go in person and find someone friendly to check around. I bet it’s sitting under a counter somewhere.

If you already know all of this please forgive my rabbling on. Good luck!

Wait so you went to USPS’s website and put in a missing mail claim and it was found in 2 days?

Appreciate the help. So what I was told is that since the package was sent from Japan, the lost mail claim had to be filed by the sender through the Japanese post office (even though the package was last scanned at the USPS post office just 1 block away from where I live).

Buyee.jp said they would file a lost package claim but that issues like this typically take weeks or even months to fully resolve.

I am confident that buyee.jp is legit and that I will eventually get my refund from them (and in the worst case scenario, I’ll get PayPal to step in since I paid through their service).

At this point, there’s an outside chance that the package just randomly shows up at my door one day or that it was returned to the sender and then sent back to me… but each day that goes by it’s less and less likely. The package hasn’t been scanned since it was scanned at the post office 1 block away from my home back on March 6th. At this point I would say the odds are in favor of the fact that the package is lost for good and I will get my refund for it a few months down the road.

This is the greatest artwork of all time, anyone who disagree can leave the forum and the hobby.

Good luck on the purchase, sad to hear about the lost card.

I’ve used Buyee plenty of times, they are legit. Might not hurt to try posting on the Reddit sub anyways, there are some nice people there.

Surprisingly yes, but that was after 1+ month of getting sent in circles by the rest of USPS.

@john

Interesting. I sold a package of cards to someone in January and it was supposed to deliver like the 21st. After two weeks I put in a missing mail claim and from that date(feb 4th) they’ve only emailed me once saying that they’re “working on it.”

Sadly the USPS where the package is still “moving to the final destination” has 1 star reviews on google and is notorious for consistently losing packages so it looks like that’s a lost cause :slightly_frowning_face:

P.S : avoid the Greenville, SC USPS at all costs if you can

Do you have a tracking number? I did the online missing package thing as well, several times. That was useless. I had to file a “package search” request that’s apparently different…look for that. PM me if you need any help at all.
