Theres a huge issue in the pokemon market - and that is negotiation. It is less fun than sports thats for sure.
In no other market, do I get such hassle for throwing a number. 29k isn’t an offer worth getting ridiculed for imo. Sure you might have two people looking for it at 40k, nice… good stuff, i don’t know that tho. I asked this same question to a few people like two months ago, and 32k was the number. It’s 40 now, thats awesome. Let me know if you have one, and if it’s for 40k, we’ll get to working on a deal. The cards not that rare firstly, so theres the possibility someone might have one.
As someone who buys hockey/basketball valued more than zard right now, its common practice to have a starting offer
My bad for trying to put some money in a charizard. I’m just trying to buy a card, I don’t really need the other nonsense - just come at me for an offer and that’s it
I’m not updated on the pokemon market daily. I learned it in the summer, bought all the PSA 10 jungles/fossils, PSA 9 base set … put it in my safe and haven’t looked since.
I enjoy pokemon, it was my childhood - but there are some people in this forum that aren’t up to date on it daily, so try to be more welcoming
I had a few hockey guys come in and ask my about pokemon - I told them to go for it, and get in the market.
They tried, and they couldn’t handle the grass roots ridicule on things either / it’s hard to explain in an outsider perspective - but i think pokemon in general will be better off, if we all just get rid of the entitlement / you’re not worthy of my collectible schtick
I’d be willing to come in cash in hand - so thats an incentive as well. And also, my 29k, is just a talking point. I’ve offered 30k on a Gordie Howe rookie before, and ended up buying it… it happens
No, I don’t mean to be rude but thats ridiculous. That’s the entitlement i’m talking about. It’s a click, on the internet, that takes 3 seconds. I got the ridicule for making a post - I don’t have to change my post to make others happy. I’m just making an offer on a card. It’s like offering 420k for a gretzky PSA 10. Noone would really get angry about it
Noone is better than someone else for having any Charizard. If you’re a person (not you, in general) that feels belittled by having to click something, and having the offer too low, then theres something wrong with you, not my offer… honestly.
Offer 75% value of any expensive rookie card on a sports forum and you will be met with the same thing. This is the most recognizable card in the hobby.
There is no entitlement, you offered 11K less than the last two sold for, that was all.
I wish you luck, but I can bet you there are 50+ members on here that would gladly buy one for 29K cash instantly, me being one of them.
I could have been more polite in my response, but the reality remains the same. The last two have sold for $40k+ and there are others actively searching for the card with $40k offers. For $29k you could buy the card and instantly flip it for $10k. That’s why people are upset.
I swear @cullers commented on a buy/trade thread in the past about how hesitating to make a strong offer will result in not getting the card. This isn’t a card where the negotiating power is within the hands of the buyer. A really strong offer, possibly even a record high price, is required to spark interest and get collectors to consider selling.
What are you talking about bud? You are the only entitled one in this entire thread. If anything your thread is the quintessential entitlement that is riff in all collectibles, where people think they can use emotional appeal to buy cards.
I have been doing sports just as long as pokemon. Your analogy is entirely false. No one in sports is going to give up 11k on a psa 9 gretzky rookie, ever. Getting a “deal” on the absolute best cards is not a thing in any hobby.
You’re missing the point. The idea of e4 was to streamline the collectible site. Anybody who takes advantage of the rules by clogging up our front page with lowballs is hurting the site. You see, where would it stop? Before you know it half the front page would be lowball buy threads. That’s not what the model of e4 allows for.
Check other buy threads and you’ll see many are great. They list at market and are most often successful in filling their holes.
Lastly, if too many people do it then the mods will shut it down which would also hurt our site.
1000% not. I deal in sports like you guys do in Pokemon. Start at 75%, get to 90%, and we make a deal. Do it literally all of the time…the pokemon market is always about beating the record sales right now, and unfortunately it’s going to come to an end one day. Negotiating on high comps is what everyone does in sports (except for cards that are actually rare). It’s just business in a liquid market. I understand Pokemon is more of a manipulated by few/hold market right now, so it’s got the big brother schtik to it… but the Canadian nationals just happened this weekend, and trust me 75% is where the start is.
Once pokemon starts getting off the internet, and in a real physical location - I guess the market will start shifting… but i guess i’ll continue to be very unwelcoming for outsiders until then.
But anyways, I didn’t really intend this to come to something. I bought a 31k card, and had 29k leftover from a big sports sale. Thought i’d add a nice zard, thats about it
Are you serious man? I’m not trying to emotionally appeal to get the card cheaper… what kind of nonsense is that. I just offered a number. I respect you, but don’t start being all knowing…
So explain to me how i’ve paid 31k for a gretzky PSA 9 this past weekend, with the last sale at 40 canadian? If you’ve been in hockey, and deal in high end - you’d know its volatile, and it goes from 30 to 40 like its nothing all day.
Honestly, If you’re serious - send me 33k each, i’ll get you 3 right now. No joke. 99k. I got you 100000%. Theres a few who have done pokemon deals with me that are in my facebook group, that can attest to this being facts.
Look, you guys are the ones that made this thread into something off topic. I just offered for a card, and you guys got hurt
Honestly if I was selling this card this offer is high enough that I’d currently be messaging the OP. Sure I’d have it up on eBay and would be trying to get more, but this is not a card at this price I would feel comfortable long term holding. I would be a seller in the current market and personally I am not aware of any buyers at or above this price on this card (but I haven’t been looking either).
A $40k sale is something a lot larger than most people can stomach doing over the internet (even owners of some PSA 10 1st base zards). There is great value in the offer of flying out to you for this deal. Otherwise what quick option is there? PWCC would take a couple months and the fees would be about $4,000 plus you could stand to get significantly less than $40k if it was deemed “weak”. One thing I really like about this offer if I were a potential seller is that it doesn’t say “strong 10’s only”. Or “pending scans/photos”.
I mean honestly if seeing someone offer $29k is so offensive or whatever anyone else can feel free to create their own thread buying at a more reasonable price of $35k, $40 or whatever floats their boat. I guess it’s all relative as I’d honestly think OP was off if he offered something ridiculous like $10,000 but at only ~20% less than the potential realize price of the last two sales which may have been stronger 10’s I don’t see as remotely unreasonable.
My incentive is literally, i’ll take a psa 10 - as long as its not completely a mess up. I’ll pay you cash/paypal friends and family no fees. And i’ll come get it from you.
Its not a bad offer. And i’m willing to move on it… but oh well - got shat on instead
For me, its just I was flying to St. Louis to pick up a card anyways, so i figured id get 2 things in one trip.
No one is responding to make a personal attack. In fact majority of the buy threads are completely ignored. The only reason this one is met with rigidity is because the card is so established, popular and scarce. To the point where people are actively trying to buy at 40k, and can’t find a copy to purchase at that price.
Until a flood of Charizards hit the market, which has yet to occur in 20 years, there simply isn’t another option. If anything this thread is a real time metric for the reality of charizard. It is hitting trophy card level unavailability.
Not trying to be difficult here - but quick honest question
When I posted about wanting comp price for my Mewtwo PSA 10 (2 comps at that time), I was ridiculed for wanting the number because those two comps were “obviously” shilled.
Where do we draw the line between shilled comps and not, whos to say these charizard comps aren’t shilled (fully expecting a “I know who bought them” answer… but that doesn’t work for me, we don’t know who bought the Mewtwos etc)
This one is available at $37.5k which is less than the $40k being offered by some members.
I know it’s been shat on for lacking back photos and supposedly the back is bad, and due to the seller. Does anyone have back pics to post of the issue? I mean the financial guarantee exists and I’m not sure if this is a “weak 10” territory or a true misgrade.
