Pokémon has been booming specifically English Modern and I was wondering if you think a JP boom or Waifu boom will come again? I saw Iono SAR from Clay Burst start trending up and I genuinely think 2025 and 2026 will be far more crazier than 2021.
I sure hope not.

As English gets out of control, people will look to Japanese as a cheaper alternative. Same thing happened with product shortages a few years ago.
I can see a temporary tick up in Japanese, then go back down once English hype dies down in 5 months

The theme of Battle partners feels like fan service so it makes sense that people are beginning to feel bullish about trainer full arts.
I’ve seen two JP shop owners hoarding stacks of booster boxes of terastal festival in their backrooms. This kind of behavior also explains why there is a sense of artificial scarcity surrounding recent releases.
Yesterday, two non-collector friends came over for lunch and told me that they want to buy packs of 151. I asked which cards they wanted to pull and they had no idea which cards were in the set, only that they wanted to rip 151.
Three anecdotes, which don’t prove anything, but that’s the vibe.

I mean sure. Lots of prices are up 20-30% in the last week so it might be starting now

I’m not looking forward to another Waifu Boom because it means I’ll probably have to sell my Alola Friends. It’s a great card, but if I have to choose between it and $10,000-$20,000, I’m taking the money.

Japanese is already booming in Japan. It feels like Japanese is cheaper on western sites than Japanese ones right now.
Due to Lag. Same thing for Japanese 151 and Vstar. Pretty much is the same price or even more expensive to buy from Japan right now for those boxes than in the US.
