Will we see another Japanese Boom / Waifu Boom?

The motto “Older Rare Minter Waifuer” never lies

People are still spending $5,000 on Lillie.

A lot of JP cards have corrected but never returned to pre-boom prices, they also aged 2 more years (Alola Friends, Poncho promos, Tag Team special art GX, special art VMAX, etc)

Definitely. The price trajectory makes sense for exclusive promos. But waifu set cards? Pretty wild.

I feel like everything that has happened in the last 8 years since Lillie’s debut as the most expensive JP set card(s) of Sun & Moon is gradually rewriting what makes sense in tcg collecting. Promos and exclusivity are no longer the only things that can perform this well

Only certain Lillie cards were popping off 5-6 years ago. For example, this Lillie from Dream League was $40-$50 in PSA 10, while the Charizard GX from Ultra Shiny GX was several hundred dollars. Same thing with Sightseer and other waifu cards - they were <$100. Only Lillie from Collection Moon was even close to/surpassing the Charizard GX chase.

This whole waifu craze exploded like everything else in 2021, but really became cemented in the Pokemon collector sphere in 2023.

Will this also apply to journey together years later? I havent seen the same effect for those cards (maybe its just the market rn)

Things are a bit more tame than everyone was expecting so far. Now for the English release, who knows.
