What do you mean?
“community”
Im just kidding, but I think its sorta a gross word people use a lot these days
Ohhhh. Hmm. Let me think, coterie? Or colony? I could switch it up a little bit next time.
people like to use it on IG mostly to hide behind some good ol fashion price gouging. When “community” is in someones bio I die a little inside
Then it was used correctly ![]()
But what if Im actually part of your community? Can we be community members together?
Or maybe comrade? E.g. “I’m really happy the card came from comrade lyleberr”
cabal comrade
lol communities definitely exist and are mostly good. Just when I hear anyone say they did anything “for the community” I immediately dont believe them
Can I get you a half glass of water? I think you may need more optimism in yours.
I do agree some words can just hit us wrong and can be on personal cringe lists.
The term “community” has definitely lost a lot of meaning in the social media age.
People don’t like the concept of exclusion but it’s necessary for a real community. Any meaningful community needs to be walled to some degree to define membership.
If your community is “people who have bought pokemon cards with an instagram account”, there is no significance to membership, no shared standards or principles, no reason to care about anyone else in the “community”.
I’d like to think that e4 doesn’t have these problems.
Underrated card
I felt it was close to 50/50 Pokemon/Sports. And the vibe I got was that Pokemon was way more popular. Amazing to see at the “Sport Card Expo”
I always find it difficult to find things I actually want at these events but this is what I left with
Welcome back to the forum, @Tydrennis! I was worried we’d never see you again.
Keep an eye out for my German and Italian copies! Hoping to recover them.
A couple of Chinese cards for the binder. I’m beginning to care a lot less about the language for binder cards as the art is what gets appreciated.
I didn’t realise the Oranguru was a sealed promo card when purchasing so an added bonus.
Agreed. A community by definition has a natural barrier to entry, not because it is gatekept, but because it’s necessary. Inclusion means you have passed a certain bar of entry - participation, value sharing, pledging - and that you have made a certain level of commitment to the community or group:
It’s also a way to exclude by natural practice, members who harm the community, or who do not actively and productively participate within the community. (ie. Grifters and trolls)
@wisewailmer
Are you referring to the notion of “For the good of the institution.”? I remember discussing this is philosophy of religion. We had an Italian catholic priest as prof. Super critical grader and teacher, but very challenging to the notion of “the institution” as a moral right. If THAT is what you’re referring to… And I get that. As @lyleberr says, context is critical.
And to contribute to the thread:
Dear lord that IS an underrated card! Props!
Hgss era has so many great individual cards and evolution lines that i constantly get the feeling that i should collect those sets only to find out that there’s too much mediocre art too for me to enjoy the sets as whole. But it’s great era for picking up slabbed bangers like this or some mini collections like binder pages for different artists, congrats for a sweet addition!
