Congrats! I also attended one (actually my first one ever) and successfully reached my goals of not losing all matches and being in the top 25 of 27 participants xD
Dang why would someone grade an error like that at ace
I’m not a massive grading fan in general, but I see Ace as a net positive to the grading space, at least they offer a new take with the custom labels - I see the appeal
(I own zero ace slabs)
I just meant why would someone take a super niche card that appeals to only a few (especially in a LP grade) and then slab it in a slab that nobody looks for when buying.
It’s really shooting yourself in the foot
It may be an even more limited market, but I’m sure some people do look for the custom labels even for niche cards (got to aim for the unique low pops somehow)
I guess I’m out of touch with grading though, maybe you’re right that from a sales perspective it is shooting themselves in the foot
It absolutely is. The choice of slab or the choice to slab something can absolutely limit exposure
I think I’m just going to authenticate them with PSA and keep in the collection. I have an 8 already and will probably sell that one. I don’t think any will hit an 8 and anything lower would trigger me on the label
Got gifted a bunch of great vending cards! Tons of Komiya art, some Kusube(the zubat and metapod!) and various other illustrations. Also a stunning ponyta from Naoyo Kimura.
Now fully catched up with Simplified Chinese and back to one missing card again until a new Staraptor card gets released.
I might have bought a couple cards from the Cyndaquil and Omanyte lines. Pokémon has a lot of languages.
Welcome to the forum!
Ladies and gents I am over the moon!
Late last year I found a GS Jolteon in the wild and fell in love with it. In the last few months I’ve started selling cards to capitalize on the current market. The GS Jolteon was an obvious choice given how much it has appreciated but it’s also the only one I regret selling. The profit was great but I learned the hard way that I valued the card and it’s story more than the money.
Earlier today a vintage video game shop (which is a 1hr drive one way from my house) posted a video of a massive collection they took in. Buried in the cards, I noticed a GS Jolteon. I called them to see if it was still available. It was, and the price was
Long story shorter, I hopped in my truck and picked up the GS Jolteon, Umbreon, and Mewtwo/Mew for less than what I sold the first GS Jolteon for.
THEN, on my drive home I decided to check out a comic shop I’d never been too. As I was leaving the shop I saw a binder on a random shelf that had “TCG” written on it (). I stopped to thumb through it and to my shock I found a “d” error Butterfree for $3.
For a bit of context, I have a small but growing Butterfree collection I’m working on with a couple parameters. One of which is that I can only purchase Butterfree cards that I find in person. I honestly thought finding the d error was going to take the longest out of all of the English cards (especially with my eyesight). Maybe I just lucked out or was just wrong
Anywho, if you can’t tell I’m excited..
Nice pickups. I really want one of those Butterfree errors. I’ll have to visit some random comic shops sometime.
Thanks
In my experience, any collectible shop that doesn’t specialize in Pokemon are the ones I’ve had the best luck finding Pokemon. The more rural the better. Also, in my experience, anything that is recommended on a local Facebook group is a waste of time. Pokemon has become so ubiquitous with collectibles you’re bound to find something somewhere.
Leave no stone unturned my friend. Happy hunting
