What's your most recent purchase?

My most recent purchase has arrived! Johto is forever my fav, and I loved revisiting the area in hgss. I was able to pick up this post card for a pretty good price. The artist isn’t named but I’m assuming Ryo Ueda. The ebay seller has a few more available so message me if you’re interested in one as well!

I first noticed it on a pack listing (would LOVE an empty pack for the art),

Which they also did for silver

It took a longer time to find a picture of that post card, but it isn’t as nice to me so I won’t be getting it.

Pleased to have concluded a deal for a couple of Korean BW and XY-era trophy/prize cards from my most recent visit to Korea. Korean cards from these eras (regardless of prize status or not) are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain so very happy that the owner was willing to sell!

First up is the Korean Battle City participation prize card from the Korean 2012 World Championship Series trials. A very unique card that I had been tracking for some time so pleased to finally obtain in my collection.

The second one is a Korean trophy card, the pikachu Korean XY Victory Ring 3rd/4th place trophy.

Beautiful cards, specially the battle city card. I am sure the holo effect looks awesome in person. Congratulations on the pickups and thanks for sharing. Really great additions.

Cheers!

Thanks Bubbles!

Must say i am warming up to the sparkle pattern on the victory ring I was not initially a fan but somehow I immediately took to that uniform “squarish” Holo pattern on the battle city.

Is that battle city art unique to the Korean trophy? If so, it’s really incredible and what a great pickup

It exists in both Japanese and English as part of BW promo sets. Pretty underrated card for the artwork it has. I think a trophy treatment highlights it better since it has the same vibes as the battle Stadium promo cards.

Cheers!

  • Been working on JP Gym sets. not a complete set, just the cards I like. I’m taking out the bigger ones first.
  • Adding lands to my land collection. Usually I buy in bulk to get a good foil but these were all bangers!
  • Lastly, nabbed this PSA 9 for $130 out the door?! I could not pass. Totodile side deck Abra.

The art isn’t unique to this Korean card and as MrBubbles has mentioned it also appears another couple of times in Jpn and Eng promos.

Great pick up! I think there are 5 postcard/calendar things in total. The one that I found some time ago that I thought was neat was this one (not my picture):

One of the listings also had this picture, which suggests there’s a set of 5 calendar-postcard-pack things total:

Very interesting! I wish that second picture was a bit better to try and make out the other postcards, but I’ll keep my eyes open

Looks like the three before HG & SS collection are the last few DPt sets:
時の果ての絆 (Bonds to the end of time)
フロンティアの鼓動 (Beat of the frontier)
アルセウス光臨 (Advent of Arceus)

@rtas is right. I found a listing with the set of 5 in there, but looking closer at the picture in the last post, the little ad thing mentions that the set of 5 covers only March (3rd month) to August (8th month) in 2010. So I’m not sure where the calendar I posted (with Jan/Feb) comes from or what the Sept - Dec calendars look like (or where they come from).

I found an old Mercari listing with the set of 5 though. I’ll post the pictures of the other calendars here for anyone interested (they are Diamond/Pearl themed, like the booster packs they come with).

Edit: Found a few more related things. Maybe they were only supposed to go up to August? Maybe something to do with the World Championship in August?

This listing has a different calendar card for Jan/Feb (and it seems like the whole set of 5 can be found in this product, so it covers months 1 through 8):

And some other related things also seem to mention August, but my Japanese is not good enough to read them (I could probably try to figure it out, but I’ll leave it to those with better Japanese):

(The back of the holo calendar I first posted has some mention of August, 2010 in the bottom-left box)

Oh, one last thing I just found. It seems like you might open up the white thing to get this holo calendar card? Or the white thing is just a separate stand for the calendars. The person that sold this mentioned they got these at a 7-Eleven stamp rally. And other listings have also mentioned 7-Eleven, I think.

I’ve been looking for the one with the ho-oh and lugia hgss booster pack art as it would save me from purchasing the binder or empty packs for the art. If anyone spots it (and doesn’t grab it for themselves :see_no_evil_monkey:) feel free to shoot me a message

I don’t say this lightly, GRAIL ACQUIRED!!
This, is by far, my most sought out Snorunt card.

I’ve spent over $500 buying up slabs over the course of two years in the hope that I could submit it myself. If you know EX Emerald, there’s a miserable amount of off center cards and printlines galore. I’ve bought PSA 8s, PSA 9s, and even listings claiming to be pack fresh.

Imagine my surprise when I’m checking out potential PSA 9 scans to crack, and I see “Pop Higher: 1”. Who has it? Where is it? Is it going up for sale? All I could do was pray that it wasn’t going into a set collector’s briefcase for a decade. Two weeks later, it appeared on eBay. It was gaining views and watchers like crazy. I knew if I didn’t bite, there was a high possibility I’d never see it again.

There is a fragment of me that is kind of upset that I didn’t grade it myself with how much time and money I’ve put into trying to make that Pop 1 happen myself but I’m more relieved that it’s finally over.

PSA 8 - Pop 28
PSA 9 - Pop 22
PSA 10 - Pop 1
