What we E10! The official E4 food thread

Merry Christmas all! :snowman_with_snow::christmas_tree::santa:t2: Hope everyone had a great 2024.

I wanted to share some of the food I’ve had this holiday season. Everyone post your holiday meals and or anything else you’ve had to eat, McDonalds included :stuck_out_tongue:. I couldn’t find a super active food thread, so I figured I’d start one :slightly_smiling_face:

First up is Christmas (eve) dinner. The colorful stuff is punch. My oven actually crapped out mid cook, but I managed to salavage most everything. Somewhat of a Christmas miracle? The Charcuterie was quite fun to build. Nothing fancy on it.

I also made some Holiday cookies for the first time. These are “Crinkle” cookies. Really good!

Merry Christmas all!

Haha, for the cookies I just followed this video.

There is a comment with instructions. The dough was quite hard/sticky, but they turned out great. Refrigerating the dough helps them keep shape in the oven. Everything else was just normal thanksgiving/christmas food. Nothing fancy. The ham and turkey came from walmart :pig::turkey:. The punch was a frozen punch starter ice cube thing, orange sherbert, and some Ginger ale.

Instead of finishing the ham in the oven, i just pan cooked the pieces with the glaze. Turned out even better than normal.

I will be attacking something very similar to this shortly, the mighty kransekake. Sorry about the potato pic, apparently even a good picture of one of these is a dying art.

Almonds, powdered sugar and egg whites. A sandy crunch on the outside and sticky on the inside, creating the most euphoric chew. An ok one is nothing to brag about, a good one will change your life. THE SMELL! If you google kransekake, 99% will have icing sugar on the outside. This is a terrible sin, the wisest grandmothers know better!

Did someone say cookies?

My wife and I have a tradition that “Santa” likes wine and charcuterie, not just milk and cookies. So we run down to the fancy cheese shop and grab some cheeses, crackers, and this great jar of strawberry preserves, and open a bottle of wine

Made some lemon macarons and a few loaves of strawberry bread for tomorrow’s Christmas party with my wife’s family.

Everyone’s food here looks lovely too!

My grandparents (on my mom’s side) are in their late 80s. Both steadily declining, but determined to keep doing their daily things. We always do Christmas Eve with them and my grandma always cooks a ridiculous amount of food. It takes her several days to shop, prep, make desserts, etc for the family. Several of us try to pitch in, but it’s her show and she wants to do things her way, so we let her. Not sure how many of these we have left, but I’m thankful to still have living grandparents and really try to soak in the holidays with them as I’ve gotten older. Here’s some pics of mostly everything we had today.

If any of those dishes are special to you, I give the suggestion to ask them to dictate the recipes to you in hopes to keep traditions and flavors going even when it becomes to laborious to do the whole rigmarole. Happy holidays and enjoy your feast!

@kamon, seconding what @lyleberr has said. Even better if you can get them to write down the recipes. My Grandma always made delicious Christmas cookies every year, unfortunately last year she passed away (in her 90s after a long and fruitful life). She gave me a handwritten copy of her Christmas cookie recipe so I can keep the tradition going!

If you like eating more than you like cooking, fried gnocchi are an easy potluck hit. No need to double fry, single fry is best in my experience

A very traditional finnish christmas meal, or at least one variant of it. I’ve had to skip some parts due to my covid mouth but i’m glad i can eat some parts of it quite normally (it’s the more colourful ones i’ve had to skip so my plate is always a bit brown-ish  ). I’m especially delighted how good seitan we managed to buy this year since a lot of them aren’t that good, i have to remember the brand nexy year too
