What was your first automobile and what did it cost?

Mine was the 1969 hardtop Mustang shown below. I bought it in 1971, 2 years old, for about 1600.00 lol. All those prices were for new vehicles.
Btw, I learned to drive in a 1954 Borgward.

Ah, back when area codes were not necessary.

'69 Mustang sounds like a sweet car. Do you have pictures @garyis2000?

Mine was a Volkswagen Kever 1972 (so called in Holland) bought in 1979 for around $300. Picture shows not mine care but it was identical at that time

@garis2000 crazy to think a station wagon used to cost significantly more than a mustang in its golden era. I’m much younger but my first car was a 2001 Mustang. I’ve ever since wanted to start a build for a 69-71 Mach 1. Maybe some day I’ll find the time and money for it.

I arranged a deal with my dad to purchase this car back in 2009 and drove it for 6 years until I wrecked it. The engine and trans still had really low miles so I picked up a 99 with a locked engine but good body and swapped them over. Still working on the new one but really only has the interior left and I’ll be back driving my first car. (At least parts of it anyways)

I know this is going to sound crazy but I just bought my first car and got my license 3 years ago. Growing up and going to college in West Virginia, everything I needed was always within walking distance. It wasn’t until I moved out of my home state that I needed a car.

So, long story short, my first car was a white 2014 Chevy Cruze, who I have lovingly named Zippy

I love this car! Do you still have it? I’m assuming by the past tense used, the answer is no :slightly_frowning_face:

2001 Mazda Protege. It cost me one box of Cuban cigars.

Hey Gary my first car was a 1981 Chevy Caprice Classic. Always loved this car, my mom had one growing up so I was able to buy my first car at 21  Cool thing about.this car was that is had a diesel engine (worst engine in history) I swapped the wheels for 13 in spokes but that ended up biting me in the butt. I would get pulled over almost every day. Eventually a head gasket blew and it wasn’t worth fixing it just to get pulled over lol

I just bought my first car about two years ago. I looked for over a year and went from wanting to take out a loan to buy a Mitsubishi Evo X, then wanting to take out a smaller loan to buy a Cadillac ATS, then an even smaller one for a Mitsubishi Evo VIII. Eventually, I decided I didn’t want a car payment and paid $6700 cash for a salvaged 2010 Toyota Prius.

Never had an issue with the car. I replaced all the brakes, fluids, and the front left hub assembly when I got it and have never had to do anything beyond regular maintenance.

My first car was a 1967 Plymouth Satellite, when I was a high school freshman in 2007. I saved up and paid $400 for that pile of rust. My first real “car” I drove was a 1980 Dodge D150 Adventurer I paid $700 for when I was a senior. Both are long gone.

I credit both of these vehicles for building my mechanical aptitude, negotiating skills and patience.

I don’t own a car nor have I ever owned a car, but I do have my license. I learned to drive in this bad boy, a red 1998 Opel Astra Break.
