What was your best find!

Bought a 4inch binder stuffed to the point of denting cards for $70, couple LP ex cards, tons of delta species bulk and reverses, best card is MP Latios GS. Also, found someone local selling there super mint sets of Neo Discovery, Rocket, Jungle, and Fossil (all commons/uncommons and some holos are 1st edition, rocket was missing some holos) for $400, its the mintyest Umbreon I’ve ever held. One day I’ll grade things to confirm. Still hoping I come across a neighbor with tons of 1st edition bases like some of the others on here.

Few year back when I re-entered the hobby, I spotted 2x 1st edition non-holo error dragonites and picked them up for about $100 total!

Does anyone know roughly how many non holo errors there are of certain cards?

Heavy base unlimited pack for $200 at my local game shop a couple months ago.

Mint copy of a first edition red cheeks Pikachu I sniped for $100 that graded a bgs 9. This was a few months ago too.

Last year, I sniped a first edition Charizard for $500.

I was at a rummage sale and an empty-nester woman was selling her son’s old collection for $20. I felt bad for the guy but didn’t hesitate to buy it! about $400 worth of WOTC holos.

My best finds were a lot of 1st edition and shadowless base for $1400 with a charizard, chansey, Ninetales, magneton, Ninetales, and machamp 1st edition thick stamp last week. My second best find was paying $700 for a lot that had 3 base set packs that were all heavy, a bunch of ex-nm 1st edition jungle and fossil holos, base set, and pack fresh Japanese including a dark charizard. Oh and a base set 2 2 player starter set and 2 1995 Japanese Pokémon playing card decks still in box.

Sealed CD Promos for 51€ in 2018, which was cheap even back then and is ridiculous today.

Also everything purchased before ~April 2020 seems like a steal now

Yes it was! The funny thing is that I can spend an hour looking through over 1000 listings and not really find anything great, but those both took 20 seconds

I was browsing eBay 2 years ago and stumbled across a Shadowless Blastoise for $25. I messaged the seller and asked if he had any other cards for sale. In the end I paid $175 for a Shadowless Charizard, Shadowless Alakazam, and the Shadowless Blastoise. The seller even through in a 1st edition Dark Dugtrio, and 1st Edition Fossil Kabutops because I was ‘overpaying’ at the time(good ole days). Both the Charizard and the Alakazam graded a PSA 6 and the Shadowless Blastoise Graded a PSA 7 and are still in my collection.

Around 8-9 years ago I spontaneously wandered into a local game store after school one day (I was in high school at the time) and at the bottom of a shelf I stumbled upon a basket of old decks (Base-Rocket) for $8 each. The store also had some old gym heroes, ex r&s, ex sandstorm, and stormfront packs for sale for $4-5 each. At the time, I didn’t have much cash aside from some money I had gotten and stowed away from birthdays/chinese new year (and no way were my parents going to let me spend a lot of money on cards). I snuck my way back to the store the next day (I think I told my mom I had to do something after school and would take the local bus back after) with the money I had and splurged on 8 decks and 10 packs. When I got home, I opened two packs to sate my opening urges and hid the rest away in the back of a cabinet in my room, still sealed to this day.

My parents never knew until I told them last month.

Probably my best find was coming across an almost complete mint PLAY promo set back in 2015 for around $175. It had all the cards (some still sealed) minus about 10 cards. I’ve since collected all the cards minus 2. Probably my best find ever.

The end of last year was my second best find off CL where an older woman was selling a binder for 35 dollars that she posted one picture of from the center page open. Drove an hour before work one day to pick it up. It was a full base jungle fossil 151 set with half the holos NM and the other half mp. The charizard was mp. But blastoise and venusaur were nm.

Edit: ps I paid the last 5 dollars with quarters and dimes because the bank wasn’t open yet and I only had 30 in cash in my wallet and 5 bucks of change in my car!

So I decided to put together a few of the first Pokemon sets as I had a decent amount of the non holos from them. I am doing Base set 1, Fossil, Jungle and Team Rocket.

I went to a card shop a couple weeks ago and founds the case with single Pokemon cards and found 2 I needed. Seeing as most places only had 1 card I needed (if that), this was a success. I asked the guy if I could see them closer and he says “we actually have a huge box of singles back here, but they’re not updated prices… so don’t tell me what they’re worth please” lol. I guess they were priced pre-Covid.

I got there 15 minutes before closing and had to rifle through these so fast lol, it was pretty intense honestly. I grabbed all the ones I needed which was about 12 holos, all priced at like $2 a piece lol some a bit more that were mint. This angel of an employee then goes “want a Blastoise?” I go, “dude… yes, please!”. He brings me over 2 of them. One for $10 and one $20. I take em and ask if they had Venusaur. Sure enough, he’s got a great looking one for $20.

I always see stories like this and in my years of collecting, I have never really gotten lucky with finds, ever, so this was a really nice surprise.

After you stole them, I mean paid for them did you run out as fast as you could?

Any other time I would have, but the guy was like “Ehhh I don’t care… I don’t make commission” lol. I did come back the next day and grabbed about 15 more that I needed for a couple sets. I tried one more time this past weekend, but they took the box away and said they weren’t available anymore
