What was the last good card you pulled?

Oh! Sheesh. Not paying attention here. Lol

On the other hand if I did pull it from a Fossil pack that would be kinda noteworthy…

Picked up a $40 Elite Trainer box from the latest set - Lost Thunder. Managed to pull a Marcargo GX - Rainbow Rare - #218/214. They might be overdoing these now and might want to switch it up, but I’m still a fan.

I started collecting again in 2016 and I haven’t bought a single booster pack. I’m not sure if that is normal but I have always thought that I could buy cards cheaper from tcgplayer/ebay and get exactly what I was looking for. Maybe if I started buying packs again I would find it exciting but I just can’ get myself to use my “Pokemon Budget” to buy 10 cards that individually value maybe $1…yes I know there are plenty of exceptions but most of the time you aren’t goign to pull that hyper rare…and If I wanted it that bad I would use the money saved from not buying packs to picking it up individually online. I’m not agaisn’t buying booster packs either, it’s just not my thing.

You’re spending wise money mate. Singles is almost always better value than buying packs!

My last good pull was from yugioh packs…in 2008.

Thanks for the input and glad you agree! That legitimately makes me feel better. I usually don’t tell anyone that because I see so many people opening packs and boxes online and I always love watching it but In my mind I’m just thinking… well that whole booster box just got you a total of $30 in cards and good luck selling bulk + time invested in doing it. I absolutely love watching it but man I just can’t get myself to do it. I know some of that is just for hype and fanbase/views but it doesn’t seem economical. I guess I just am too frugal…being a teacher, I have to watch the budget a bit more.

There’s no shame of spending wise money, and enjoying other people’s opening videos but being reluctant to open some yourself. Some enjoy doing it for the audience, some enjoy it for the experience, you and I both enjoy it to mainly get the cards we need, which makes singles buying a lot more logical for many people, including yourself! I also hate opening packs sometimes like you said, because I have no idea what to do with the bulk and it takes up inventory space. It’s too expensive to ship so it can’t be cleared out either!

I don’t think you’re frugal, many others and even in Scott’s videos, he would mention that if you are looking for PSA 10 grade cards with something specific in mind, don’t bother gambling on packs and just buy it on ebay, as it would be less frustrating, easier and cheaper in the long run.

If you are only looking at the monetary value aspect, buying singles is the way to go - hands down.
There is a thrill and excitement of opening a pack and pulling an awesome card you don’t own yet, that buying singles can’t match.
I personally prefer to do a little bit of each.

Little story:

Growing up, my brothers were big into Pokemon. This got me into collecting them too. Eventually lost interest as we entered high-school.

As an adult, I got back into collecting Pokemon. After making fun of me a bit, they started buying packs again, have picked up a couple of modern booster boxes, and have started up binder collections with their good pulls.

For Christmas this year, they both said they wanted Pokemon cards. To get ideas, I was asking about some graded or loose Cards, HG&SS tins, sealed WOTC Packs, or Holon-Phantoms era blister packs.

The response I got was “Fun Level=0. Booster Boxes have 36 packs - these don’t even come close”.

I’ve explained the whole “the older, the rarer, the minter, the better”, but that doesn’t mean anything to them since they aren’t trying to make any money. It’s for their personal enjoyment only. They keep the good cards and save the reverse foils, but throw away the bulk cards - yes, in the trash can.

So it really boils down to what you are looking to achieve in the hobby. I have some focus in my collection, but also appreciate the randomness of picking up a pack and not knowing what the next card in my collection will be.

I’m not sure if this counts but I pulled a gold ultra necrozm, on the tcg online game.
