What’s your favorite Neo-era card?

@dragonwarrior I felt the same way until I got the Japanese version of the holo. It honestly looks so nice(and is WAY cheaper too)

Could there be any doubt? If this isn’t on any Gyarados’ collector’s top list for one of the most iconic and favorite arts of the Neo Set… I mean the idea is preposterous! That any card from Neo could top this monolith for any Gyarados collector just seems sil-

Neo Genesis Lugia

I think I would have to go with Heracross from Genesis. Old school Sugimori art plus Pinsir is A+ material

What is it about this card that makes it so hard to grade, btw? I know it is and it’s reflected in the population report but why is this the case?

@silver, Light Dragonite is my favorite Destiny card, just a flat out 10/10. Usually not the biggest fan of that Team Rocket/Destiny cartoonish vibe, but they nailed it with this card.

Printlines, red ink dots, black ink dots, excessive foil bubbling, excessive foil indentations, consistently poor side-to-side front centering, factory nicks, the usual (though reduced from certain earlier sets) whitening and silvering issues etc etc.

I’m curious what makes T17 (and other hard-to-grade set cards) so particularly vulnerable to these defects - does it have to do with its position on the sheet? Just pure coincidence?

It depends. The amount of holo on the card (think Yanma, holo energies), and the shade of color (think normal types), are usually big factors.

T17? Positioning on the sheet could certainly be a factor. That is, beyond the issues it shares with most of the Genesis holos.

@c0ll3ct0r

I wouldn’t count ink dots as an issue with T17, there are at least two PSA 10’s with red dot near set symbol.

It’s entirely possible, but I don’t think a couple of copies passing through the fire is enough to warrant confirmation of their supposed standards. PSA have cherry-picked every blemish under the sun at some point, surely that could be the case here as well?

Thats 20% of the cards PSA 10 pop… I dont think you are going to get a much larger sample size

That’s assuming PSA is somehow more exacting because the pop is lower?

Indeed. I think sometimes, we forget, percentage is irrelevant when we’re talking 1 or 2 cards. It’s literally 1 or 2 cards.

The only Neo era card that comes to mind that hasn’t been mentioned is this…

It’s a bit of a technicality, but it has the Darkness, and to Light/Neo Destiny set symbol. Obviously no hidden gem, but definitely has to be in the thread somewhere!

So much love for shining gyarados on e4 but price on PSA 8-9s hasn’t moved much in last 12 months compared to some other neo cards. I’d agree though, +1 shining gyarados, mewtwo and tyranitar (oddly not a fan of the shining charizard much)
