What Pokemon is the fastest and why?

Please explain your answer.

Supposedly Regieleki is the fastest with 200 base speed. However, I would say that Mew is the fastest because of its ability to teleport any distance at any time.

Beat me to the post but might as well still send it lol.

I’ll give the game data answer:

If speed = distance / time

and time = 0

then…

Time would approach 0, but wouldn’t be equivalent to 0.

And when speed = distance / time, and time approaches 0, speed approaches infinity.

Where does Mew exist in the time that it is teleporting between point A and point B?

ok I’m officially concerned

I will say Celebi is the fastest Pokemon.

Sure, Regieleki has the highest base stat, and Mewtwo can get from point A to point B in no time, but can either of them get to yesterday?

Ability to time travel makes Celebi the fastest, and also the slowest.

Welp i was gonna say Electrode :pensive:

The time that it takes to teleport is equivalent to the delta between when Mew makes the decision to teleport and when Mew actually engages its psychic powers to teleport. Humans take about 200-250 milliseconds to react, so Mew’s time between thinking and reacting must be fractions smaller than that. As Mew travels increasingly larger distances, its speed approaches infinity.

However, your question is less about measuring time (and therefore speed), but about identifying the location of Mew as it moves between points A and B.

Where does Mew exist in the time that it teleports between A and B?

I’m not sure.

Perhaps teleportation shares certain properties with electrons, such that Mew only has a quantifiable position once we measure it.

Perhaps teleportation shares certain properties with wormholes, such that Mew may exist within a wormhole-like structure as it bends space-time with its immense gravity.

Perhaps Mew exists simultaneously upon all possible points between points A and B, like what we see with quantum superposition.

Game Answer:

Barraskewda in the rain. Swift Swim doubles it’s speed to 272

@Dyl by that logic I would have to assume that Alakazam is the fastest. Alakazam can also learn teleport and has an IQ of 5000 which means it can think even faster

Mew can become Alakazam, therefore its intelligence is greater than Alakazam?

Dialga can also apply with this logic being the ruler of time.

How far can Mew teleport? How many times can it do it back-to-back? There’s no guarantees it could actually win a distance race if these limits exist. It’s unclear the mechanism behind the teleportation. Maybe we should consider velocity instead of speed, in which case there’s an argument that the change in distance for a teleporting mew would be 0, making the velocity 0. In the case of a wormhole, arguably no distance is covered because the way it works is that you are in both start an end positions at the same time - in which case both velocity and speed could arguably be zero.

I appreciate the thought experiment but there are too many unknowns. As such I am ruling out teleportation. And for good measure, time travel too. In other words, to qualify the Pokemon can’t have a static inertial frame of reference. There must be some non-zero and non-infinite acceleration. Otherwise I can throw any Pokemon to any arbitrary speed in a vacuum and then claim it is the fastest.

Pokee-MON! Gotta catch ā€˜em aaaallllll, ner ner ner ner neerrr ner-ner - my brain RN

This may not be a species as a whole but in the anime there are several specific Pokemon (belonging to specific trainers) which perform crazy feats of speed. Several Pokemon casually dodge electric moves and high speed flying moves. Ash’s Pikachu has in essence dodged a solar beam which if you consider is a concentrated beam of sunlight, making Ash’s Pikachu faster than light.

It is also mentioned in lore that Flying Dragonite can circle the earth in 16 hours, which is insanely fast. Not to mention, Ninjask, which the lore states that the Pokemon was deemed to be invisible because it would move so fast that it would not be seen! Raikou is embodiment of electricity which I feel is also super quick. Etc.

Cheers!

Indeed. If dialga (and presumably Arceus) exist outside of time, then ā€˜speed’ and time does not apply to them. Their linear existence cannot be measured. So I’d say they do not qualify. Since speed is the question, it would have to be something that exists and moves within time.

Celebi however, CAN travel through time, it can just control the direction of time, unlike the rest of us who can only travel forward in time. Even when approaching or surpassing the speed of light.

Kinda what PFM said above…

Let’s not forget that blaziken was so fast at one time, that it was banned in competitive play.

BUT it’s been nerfed, so it IS NOT at this point. This suggests that we should ignore game meta, as it can arbitrarily change. I do like Mr Bubbles trying to look at anime episodes.

Depends on how you define ā€œfastest.ā€ While Regieleki may have the highest base speed stat, and also the highest possible speed statistic (when considering boosting moves), it is unclear how base stats translate to a Pokemon’s theoretical top speed in traditional units (MPH, KPH, etc.). When we look at Pokedex entries, it’s clear that base speed statistics are not directly equivalent to a Pokemon’s maximum real-world speed.

  • Arcanine’s dex entries frequently mention it can cover 6200 miles in a single day and night (i.e. 24h), giving Arcanine an average speed of 258 MPH. Although it is likely Arcanine could hit a higher top speed in a sprint.

  • Pidgeot’s dex entries state it flies at Mach 2 speed (1534 MPH).

  • Garchomp’s dex entries state it flies at the speed of a jet fighter plane. The average fighter jet speed is approximately 800-1200 MPH, however top speeds of modern fighter jets can reach up to 1920 MPH. The fastest speed recorded in a jet-powered plane is the SR-71 Blackbird, which reached Mach 3.43 (2632 MPH). Garchomp’s Ultra Sun dex entry implies the lower end of these possible speeds, mentioning that it flies at the speed of sound.

  • Latios’ dex entries state that by folding back its wings or forelegs, it can overtake jet planes. Importantly, the dex entry does not specify which jet planes it can overtake. However, it does not explicitly state that Latios cannot overtake certain jet planes. So, according to the dex entry, Latios could theoretically exceed the top speed of the jet-powered SR-71 Blackbird. At minimum, Latios should exceed the top speeds reached by modern jet fighters.

I think this provides a strong argument that Latios is the fastest Pokemon.

I rest my case.

I bring up Dislga as it’s not really an out of time experience rather a time controlling existence per many of his dex entries. Like Celebi he can at will travel through time.
