What does this mean for my card?

I recently purchased a card on eBay and paid a decent premium as it was described as “Mint” and there were a good amount of images from multiple angles that seemed to show a really clean card (Looked like a 10 but at worse a 9 from those image). Anyway fast forward to me getting the card and I notice this pretty deep scratch on the back of the card. This was kind of disappointing as I intended to grade it.

Anyway my question is how much do you think this would affect the grade on this card?

certainly not mint will get hit hard on the surface grade

As I feared, so I’m guessing more like a PSA 7-8?

@turpin, probably a 6 tbh. I’d return it if you’re grading it

I have a Shining Charizard with a defect like that on the back (flawless otherwise) and it got a 6!

Graders are very harsh when it comes to indentations vs scratches. I think they’ll dock that pretty harshly and if there is an opportunity to return as not-as-described, this is probably one of the times where that actually makes sense. The card isn’t mint. :slightly_frowning_face:

Ouch, that kind of sucks. Hopefully I can return it.

Thank you for the replies. I didn’t quite realise it would grade that low.

As others have said if it was advertised as mint or near mint then of course that is not what you received. Try working with the seller first and see if they will work with you and use an eBay not as described claim as a last resort.

That’s somethign seller was 100% aware of, so if he didntinclude that in pics, just return it

That’s not necessarily true. If a PSA grader can miss something as the poster above you showed, it’s very possible a seller didn’t notice either. By the way, your avatar is fire!

Thanks! But we all sell cards, we all inspect them, chances that he really missed it are low tho. It’s not a small defect.

Might get lucky but usually something like that drops it down to a 6. Really depends how deep the scratch is and the grader

Damage like that should be an auto 6 unfortunately. If you get any grade higher I would say you got very lucky.

Indents if seen are graded 6-8 depending on how bad. I’d suggest a PSA 6-7 if caught. However I’ve def seen JP PSA 10 cards similar to this.
