I recently purchased the following card and when I received it, noticed these hairline scratches all over the back. They can’t be see unless the light is at a certain angle, or felt at all. I’m just wondering how much this affects the grade, and what you guys think this card would receive? I was thinking maybe a 7 because the scratches on the back are so fine, but I don’t know how much weight that would have on grading.
I have highlighted every flaw on the card in the following pictures:
Wow you think it could possibly be an 8? I guess the scratches dont affect the normal eye appeal of the card without close inspection. I’m going to send it in anyway to see what happens, I’m pretty curious.
Well I have a good amount of 8s that have white nicks on the back. Some are in fairly obvious places/pretty big and easily visable so to me Id guess no whitening but small back scratches would be about equal, but Im no expert. I just have a lot of psa 8s cause I dont bother going for 9s or 10s
The front is either a 6 or a 7 imho, it looks like a good amount of faint scratches, but I think it should be a 7. The back scratches will be the biggest issue that will ensure this is not an 8 (and maybe not a 7). Centering alone could easily be 9 and whitening and edges look like a solid 8.
I think you are looking at either 6 or 7, but that’s just my two cents. Sometimes the photos make it look worse than it actually is.
edges, corners, centering look good. The surface is whats gonna get you. Luckily, the surface wear looks like viewing them is angle dependent. If thats the case, it has an outside chance at a 8 imo. Likely a 7, 6’s usually have less “eye appeal” than your card, or have some slight structural damage.
It is a great looking card. I’m so disappointed it came with these scratches on the back. Saw it in newly listed on eBay right when it was listed and bought it immediately, being afraid someone else would snag it before me. Normally I ask questions to the seller, and the one time I don’t this happens. They even had a picture of the back at an angle of light hitting it, and the scratches weren’t visible at all. Should have mentioned in the description it was dragged on a sandy table
Oh well, lesson learned. If it could get even a 7 I would be very happy.
Asking questions actually helps a lot. Sellers send better pictures all the time that show pretty much every flaw. I always think one or two grades lower than what im expecting from pictures look like as well, and pretty much every time it’s the grade I expected or one below.
